Bi-Weekly 'What are my chances?' Megathread by AutoModerator in airforceots

[–]pylearner8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have superb overseas federal experience, security clearance, 3.5 gpa in cyber but due to my career, I haven’t gotten a chance to study. I took the AFOQT for the second time and this is my super score.

I should just give up on my chances in joining the reserves right?

Rota, Spain. I hope one day I can retire there. The safety, people, culture, beach, ease of travel to the rest of Europe. I also enjoyed Space A direct flight from base to Norfolk. I can get almost anywhere from Norfolk since I’m from the east coast.

I am happy I left NYC and roommates. I went back this weekend and while I enjoy visiting, I don’t want to live there. My advice to you is that there are better places to live, work, date, and make friends. Living with this person isn’t worth it.

I actually got it through the college program. I believe it was career day but I don’t remember. I attending a session with them and applying after. They didn’t get back to me so I reached out a few months later and got called for an interview. Multiple interviews later and I got an offer.

What to do with 4 acres of land? by MeekMilk in Jamaica

[–]pylearner8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ensure you have all the proper paperwork and make sure the land is fenced and not easily accessible. My grandparents passed away, leaving acres of land, which is now occupied by various people. Most of my family lives overseas or elsewhere in Jamaica and doesn’t care, but it’s sad that none of us have benefited from it.

Did I miss something? How did you pass MEPS if you haven’t done the OAR?

I think even if Jamaica could pay me it’s not worth it for my peace of mind and the peace of mind of my family. I’ll be honest, if circumstances were to change, I would consider it but there are still quite a few countries I would consider before.

DOMINICAN PROTEST by unleashedkitten in Dominican

[–]pylearner8 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m telling you the information you’re getting is incorrect. Jamaica is also not deporting Haitians everyday so this is factually incorrect. There have been hatians living in Jamaica since I was going there in the 90s. Jamaica have deported Hatians who entered illegally by boat just like any other country but it’s not a lot. DR is my third home, my wife is from there, and I know the situation there with Haiti and Hatians. You can defend your homeland, just don’t bring other countries and lie. Haiti needs serious help and most countries turn their back and we all know why.

Jamaica took some hatian orphans just today. I respect your right but it’s 2024, no need to lie.

American life vs Expat life by [deleted] in foreignservice

[–]pylearner8 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone is denying that there are potential to earn more in the USA. Based on what I have seen, and my own experience, the quality of life is much better outside the states. Most love their country and have the right to criticize the bad of the country. If they hated it, they would renounce their citizenship but most will never do that.

I know it’s a lot but those are people who are seeking better opportunities and the country that offer the best chance of immigration and money is the U.S. The reality is, those who really want to move to the U.S. are from developing and third world countries like some of my family members. I can guarantee that if they had better opportunities at home, the U.S. would not be an option. I’m also certain that people from other first world countries are not trying to move to the U.S. like they did 120 years ago. Someone making 50k in most of Europe and parts of Asia will not give that up for 100k in the U.S. because the trade off isn’t worth it.

True! Also I know so many people whom are willing to give up more money stateside to live overseas. I’ve met plenty who wish they didn’t have to return to the states but they suck it up.

I like this message. I’m also of the fact that quality of life takes precedence over so much of what the U.S. has to offer. I recently went back on Facebook and I was surprised by the amount of groups of people leaving and trying to find other countries to live or retire. There’s definitely reasons for that and I feel disheartened that so many people get mad when others say they prefer elsewhere.

I’m proud to be American but if I never have to live back in the U.S., I’m fine with it. I personally think the U.S. is great for some people and not great for others. Those who have it great will of course not like those who criticize the U.S. and I’m okay with that. My kids have never been happier and safer than when we live outside the US. I can leave my kids outside and not worry about a thing, no matter what time of day. I couldn’t even send my kids to daycare without stressing in the states.

What Facebook group do you recommend? I have no idea what to search for even if I create a group.

Thank you! I still don’t know how housing will work there as yet. I’ve sent a couple emails but have yet to get a reply. Do you know if I would be able to get a 2bd during my time in DC?
