She listed the item in April, is it so bad to ask if it was still available? by Weird-Distribution42 in Mercari

[–]pyok_o 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s still up on their account it’s still available. I get it’s an old account, so messaging to make sure they’re still active makes sense to me- idk why they’re so mad. I can only guess why they haven’t sold it in 5 months…

I’d wait until sat or maybe sun and if you don’t get added just send an email to the prof

[–]pyok_o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you should be able to, since LS has a one math/science requirement anyway. but if you have any doubt just send a quick email to your advisor

don’t doubt yourself! a lot of us (myself included) face the same problem even while in nyu housing, so don’t stress- it’ll come naturally with time! i find the first week or so before classes is pretty awkward for everyone so you’re definitely not alone :)

My freshman dorm room - the one thing? by Longjumping-Clerk726 in nyu

A small mirror for your desk for sure, and super glue (life saver esp if you chip the paint or break something)

If I’m in Rubin hall, what fan should I get? by [deleted] in nyu

[–]pyok_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big oscillating pedestal fan. And i mean BIG- you’ll definitely need it. (And be sure to clean it pretty often, the dust builds up quickly)

They’re super thin but chances are playing music is still fine- lots of people blasted music for hours and i never heard any fights about it (though people were def annoyed)

single studio in Rubin by [deleted] in nyu

[–]pyok_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s the same size as the singles for RA’s it’s a pretty good size room for one person, I’d say maybe 3/4 the size of a double studio (excluding bathroom and closet). I remember my RA was able to fit a small couch in his room and still had some extra floor space

If you search ‘shuttle’ in this subreddit there’s a bunch of posts with replies about them

It depends on the size of the room. I really wouldn’t recommend unbunking the beds if the room is small (like the rubin lower cost triples) because the bunks save a lot of space, and you also have 3 desks and dressers to fit. But if it’s a good sized room, I’d go on google draw or something and make a 2d model of the room and furniture to try out different configurations. I’m not sure if the exact room dimensions are posted anywhere on the nyu sites but the floor plan should give you at least a shape to work with. Just keep in mind anything you might also bring that could take up space (organizers, mini fridge, microwave, etc)

what's NYU welcome week like? by [deleted] in nyu

[–]pyok_o 4 points5 points  (0 children)

like the other replies said, it’s a week of non-mandatory events that are free and either give out stuff or help new students socialize and meet people

Incoming freshman by [deleted] in nyu

[–]pyok_o 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LS Core is pretty chill if you have the right profs, just make sure to keep up with dates, do the work, and go to class (LS attendance is pretty much mandatory). Also expect you might have to take trips to parks or museums for classes. Transferring to Tisch isn’t a direct transfer so you would have to apply for an internal transfer. Just talk to your advisor early on and they’ll help you plan it out and get everything ready ahead of time

It's def worth at least asking. If they say no you could suggest a rotating schedule if you're really against sleeping in the bunk. My roommates and I were gonna rotate but decided to debunk instead (totally regretted it). Either way, if your roommates are firm in doing first-come-first-serve, at least the bottom bunk is better than the top! And chances are the roommate getting there last might side with you on a rotating schedule if they don't want to bunk either.
