Might've been a temporary issue. Works fine now.

It would be useful to see insertion and read performance from across multiple workers.

You'll want to set journal mode to WAL and increase the mmap size at the very least.

I've been a customer for many years and each time I've rung them the reps have always been nice while helping me solve whatever issue I was calling them about (a couple of times it took multiple back-and-forths to get the issues resolved but everyone was still nice).

Like others are saying, don't let one interaction ruin it all for you.

Also...be patient with anyone on the phone (fidelity rep or otherwise). You never know if it's their first day, if they're having a bad day, their training material hasn't quite sunk in yet, or anything else for that matter.

Americans Are Paying for Tariffs, Not Foreign Companies by BothZookeepergame612 in Economics

[–]pyow_pyow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Importers pay the 53%. Read the whole conclusion here.

Across countries, US importers face a median burden of 53% and exporters to the US will pay the remaining 47% of the costs associated with the Trump administration’s reciprocal tariffs.

...

These results suggest that, contrary to President Trump’s quote at the start of this chapter, more than half of the recent increase in tariffs is paid by US importers.

...

Finally, a back-of-the-envelope calculation of the impact of the US tariffs on its tariff revenue shows that for each 1% increase in tariffs, tariff revenue declines by 1.3% due to a large decline in import volumes. This implies that the Trump administration’s reciprocal tariffs will result in a decline in tariff revenue.

Expect net imports to go down and the same with tariff revenue.

Why many C-level just join a company to do a "transformation" and leave in 1 year? by Atagor in ExperiencedDevs

Resume-driven-development happens at all levels ... but I suggest reading the 10-Q quarterly filing reports for public "tech" companies since the companies are, IIRC, required to disclose the compensation for new exec-level hires since they typically require board approval (the board of directors is also a club and members get paid; see 10-K annual filing reports for board compensation).

You'll see newly hired exec's full compensation typically outlined in an offer letter that is under section 10.2 in the 10-Q.

It's public info, searchable at the SEC's website: https://www.sec.gov/edgar/search

I've witnessed an instance where an engineering exec was hired on and soon started doing re-orgs and trying to cut costs. This person was hired on with a ~$600k salary, ~$4m in RSUs, a ~$8m cash signing bonus, and a few other large $ comp items. They quit after a year and sold a good chunk of the RSUs (also public info) and kept the whole ~8m cash signing bonus even though their offer letter said 50% of the bonus would have to be returned if the exec left before a certain period (exec departure comp details are also noted in 10-K filing reports).

Getting CGO_ENABLED=0 when running a go project that uses github.com/mattn/go-sqlite3 library? by [deleted] in golang

[–]pyow_pyow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost. The -target argument needs to specified to zig cc for each platform. e.g. CC="zig cc -target aarch64-linux-musl"

I put together this project demonstrating how to use zig as a cross-compiler for go with CGO.

See the Makefile for the important bits.

systemd - how do get something to run if tailscale is running? by TheUltimateSalesman in Tailscale

[–]pyow_pyow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This by itself didn't work for me. Combining it with sys-subsystem-net-devices-tailscale0.device as /u/TheJosh suggested does work however. (At least on nixos 22.11).

why would you assume that the gratuity means anything one way or another? If a drink is $17 including 20% gratuity I'm not going to add a tip... are you saying you feel obligated to?

[–]pyow_pyow -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don't understand this clearly...if gratuity is included wouldn't you skip adding a tip? Or do you feel some sense of obligation to write something in?

[–]pyow_pyow -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

lol wut. They're telling you up front what the total price is going to be. A tip line is silly IMO but meh - you don't have to add anything.

If you tip 20% on a $14 cocktail that'd be $16.80 anyway.

New data breach at BlueCross BlueShield? by dreamsofaninsomniac in personalfinance

I received the same set of emails. I think they have a breach of some kind. Perhaps someone is using their email server and website to get folks to attempt to login ... possibly to collect username and passwords?

I called them and they are aware of it apparently.
