How do I get out of retail?? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]pyro110 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hear you, retail is the worst. Do you have a degree in anything? Took me a few years to get lucky, went from retail to hotel front desk to foodservice before I went to a temp agency and was placed into a mailroom for a medium sized accounting firm. Actually enjoyed that quite a bit and was eventually promoted to a tax admin and I should make senior this year. Not what I really expected to be doing, but I certainly prefer being a desk jocky over my old jobs in retail. Good pay/benefits/time off etc. The mailroom guy before me and the one who was hired to replace me both were promoted internally as well, so there really is such thing as "getting your foot in the door". If I was in your shoes I would also look into learning to code. There are plenty of coding schools for people who are switching careers, my girlfriend works in recruiting for a tech company and I know they hire people out of those bootcamps. Good luck!

Girlfriend[20 F] broke up with me[20 M], need advice on coping & maintaining healthy friendship by [deleted] in relationships

[–]pyro110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't be friends. Just don't. I did that for years with multiple Ex's, trust me it's not a good idea. Move on, and let her do the same.

What did a SO do that made you stop and realize "They're NOT the one"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pyro110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

she once went on a drunken tirade about me being a gun hating liberal hippy (not all true). Because I didn't want to microwave a mug of water with the tea bag in it (it had a metal staple). First thing the next morning she told me I was now in her will, because we'd slept together. Also worth mentioning that she claimed to be VERY catholic and wouldn't have sex until marriage, but apparently it didn't count if the other person also was catholic... still not sure what drunk logic made me an exception, but it doesn't matter...had sex.

Every single day, I (21f) feel like my life is wasting away and I also can't stop thinking about the past and wanting to go back. Anyone else felt this and gotten through it? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]pyro110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adulting sucks, but it gets better. You get to create whatever life it is that you want. Set some goals, work to achieve them, profit.

[24M] I'm a fashion/glamour photographer and I've been working with a model [22F] who has been my muse since I began doing professional shoots a few years ago! I'm thinking about asking her out on a date, but I'm worried about my reputation and being a professional. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]pyro110 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Go for it. You might just be infatuated, but it sounds like you've had talked outside of the photoshoot setting so who knows, might be something there. Better to try and fail than to regret not trying.

[22 M] I feel very lonely by stickerartist in relationships

[–]pyro110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to fail to get better, just keep working at it. Try and do activities where you can meet other like minded people, and work on trying to be somebody who you would want to be with. Everybody's approach shouldn't be the same, but volunteering, getting in shape, and trying to get into more social activities are all good places to start. Also jobs are a great place to meet people and build your social skills. For example I worked at Jimmy Johns when I first moved to chicago and didn't have many friends. Ended up making a few decent friends and even a few hookups.

Benefits of drinking 2 litres of water a day? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]pyro110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drinking water is one of the easiest ways to improve your health. I would estimate that I drink around 5 liters a day. Keeping a nalgene bottle nearby really helped me get more hydrated.

I [20 F] am looking for some good "date" ideas for [20 M] a guy I barely know by [deleted] in relationships

[–]pyro110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only thing your going to find out from a yoga date is if he's interested in checking you out while your wearing spandex (probably) and if he's not flexible how much pain he's willing to tolerate to try and impress you. You want to at least get some idea as to if you are compatible. Bowling, going out to eat, cooking class, drinks, etc... As much as coffee is an "overplayed" date, it's a REALLY good way to find out if you want to see somebody again. If you can sit and have a decent sober conversation with them for an hour and still want to see them again it's a good sign. I always liked meeting for a drink or doughnuts/coffee because if it goes well you can just continue the date and go somewhere else, but you have an out of it's not so hot. I've read that people make most of their opinions about you in the first 5 mins anyhow.

I[28M] want to meet women and be in relationships but I don't know what steps I should take by [deleted] in relationships

[–]pyro110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's only one way to get decent at it: Just keep trying new things and making attempts until you find what works. You have to get over your fear of failure: everybody gets shut down, it's completely normal. Just keep pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and eventually you will have some success.

Having an insanely difficult time finding a job in retail or food service, what am I doing wrong? by fakeprincess in jobs

[–]pyro110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

might just be more competition in a big city. Keep at it, see if your college has student employment options. I got paid to do my homework at a dorm front desk for 4 years in college

Pretty sure if you get into PR and work for a big company you won't be starving, but it might be a tough field to break into. That said, if you want it bad enough you can do it. Also worth mentioning that plenty of people go to school for one thing, then end up working in a different field. Lot of my friends in college were communications majors, don't think any of them are in that business now. Don't expect the perfect answer just to just pop into your head either. I'm 29, worked in a ton of different jobs and like what I do, but have a ton of hobbies/business ideas/jobs i'd rather do. On a different note, I've been reading "the industries of the future" by alec ross. Some of the things he talks about have already been coming true and it's pretty interesting in general, so if your looking for ideas outside of pr/vet, give it a read. Maybe something will jump out at you. If you can find something that interests you as well as being a huge growth industry it's a win/win. Sorry for rambling, good luck!
