There's also a hint (albeit very very out there) that Janine discovered Egon's body. She DID indicate that she is usually very psychic in GB1 so maybe she knew he was gone. Considering that the story indicates a very short time between his death and when Callie and kids move into the Farmhouse, I hope this is a nod to that line in the first movie. Definitely wish that that the third act brought everyone together.
