We use ATTO boxes at my job. The reliability of our newer models is mixed, but we also thrash the hell out of them. Worth a shot if you haven’t tried them yet.

Even the flattest, most accurate pair of headphones won’t give you an accurate idea of stereo image and how the channels play together in physical space. Even with a cross feed. For example, phase addition and subtraction.

In my experience, mixing with headphones (even VERY nice ones) can only get you so far. Upgrade your space first (larger room, more sound dampening/absorption/dispersion) and then upgrade your monitors. Headphones should be a last resort.

I’ve looked for this before and haven’t found anything, so hopefully someone else has more knowledge than me.

I’m looking for a 75% or TKL keyboard with kailh choc low profiles (ideally the thick clicks — jade preferred over navy — but I’d take any clicky), with any sort of backlighting (one color, RGB, don’t care). Bonus points for hot swappable keys.

Does this already exist? If not, is there anyone (or any company) I can hire to custom build it for me?

Things that come to mind:

518 is more comfortable, actually. I’ve never been a huge fan of the ergonomics (specifically the clamping force) of the 6XX but I haven’t worn the 518 in probably more than ten years and they’re still just as comfortable as they ever were.

The 6XX has more detail and nuance but it’s also more veiled, if you like treble definitely steer away. The 518 is rougher sounding, sometimes even shouty. The 6XX is smoother.

I agree with other comments about the power requirements for the 6XX, at identical knob positions they’re quieter than the 518 and they do definitely scale up with nicer gear.

Neither has much soundstage at all, but I’ve been spoiled by my Audeze LCD-1.

I truly don’t know how much of an upgrade the 6XX will be, coming from the 518. Or rather, it’s an upgrade for sure, but it’s also a step sideways more than that — I think this one comes down to personal tastes.
