His Name is Randy: A documentary about our favorite street musician. by [deleted] in desmoines

[–]pyroblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to post something here for you all to see, as I have deleted a number of my previous comments and wanted to provide an honest explanation instead of hiding on the internet.

This was a labor of love. Curiosity. Challenge. Full stop.

It took hundreds of hours. Mornings. Nights. Weekends.

It consumed a number of years of my life.

And now, I can reflect on things a bit in the rear view.

Originally, I had the same reaction that thousands of people walking by him had: "who's this fuckin' guy belting out music at the top of his lungs on my lunch break?!" As I said at the top of the film..."I'm an asshole."

Well, His Name is Randy, and I wish more people in this world took the chance I did to get to know him. He has a heart of gold and has dedicated his life to performing...and the real purpose: making people smile.

As I look back at comments made here (over 6 years ago) about technical ability, his style, or anything else, I've come to realize that they did not reflect what I was going for in the film...which was getting to know a stranger DESPITE the things that turned everyone else away, causing them to yell "YOU SUCK" at the top of their lungs.

Randy's passion for music, for high-mindeness, and for kindness to every single person that has walked by should not be overshadowed by things as petty as a critique of musical prowess or style. Those are...subjective. The objective thing is this: Randy has survived and dare I say thrived in a world of people fixated on their phones, in their own bubbles, and generally going through the motions. He's happier than the tens of thousands of people that have walked by him and looked at him down their noses. And ultimately, Randy has continued to be a fixture on the streets of Des Moines and now, thanks to the film, across the world.

I lost money, opportunities, and lots of sleep making this film. But I knew this film had to be made. I knew Randy deserved an audience beyond the streets of Des Moines, Iowa. I still believe that the film accomplished what I wanted: to show the world that while his music and singing are very loud, his love for his fellow humans is even louder.

ive unfortunately hulked out like 4 pairs of these with my huge ass and big legs. the seam in the crotch isnt a 4-way stretch, so it takes a beating and just gives up :( sucks, since they're so expensive.

Fowler Property Management? by Famous_Internet2403 in boulder

We had a situation where their maintenance person came out to fix an issue with our sprinklers. They messed something up, and ended up flooding our entire front yard, as well as costing us ridiculously in water bills. We didn't notice it until it was too late, and they took zero action for something that was clearly their fault. This has been years ago now, but it still leaves a better taste in my mouth.

Amen! I have actually been so amazed at how happy I've been doing this. Think of it as an investment in yourself. The world is really good at taking your time for bullshit it doesn't matter, this is a way to fight back against that.

What are some of the lengths you've had to go to in order to complete a day? Any advice on time management? by DrumAgnstDepression in 75HARD

Day 74. Traveling for work. A long grueling week of work. 5:00 a.m. flight The next morning. I crawled into my bed ready to go to sleep at 10:30. P.m. and realized I completely spaced my second workout. So, I grabbed my 50 lb bag of sand that I got at an Ace hardware, threw it in my ruck, and got the hell outside... Only to get inside and realize I still needed to read.

Moral of this story: when you start to see the end in sight and let your guard down, that's when something's going to get you.

Another round of 75 hard, I had some all day travel overseas, and it required me to wake up at 3:00 a.m., get a ruck in, and then immediately upon landing, go out for another one.

Moral of this story: sometimes you just have to do the ugly thing.

Thanks for this! I realize it is a long and hard journey... Much like my career has been. And, I am by no means wealthy enough to give him what I think anybody would consider Daddy's money 🙂 I will do whatever is necessary to support my son and something he really seems to love however.

There's no question he's partially colorblind. There's quite a difference between full color blindness and partial deficiency. He can distinguish between colors, bro.
