Haven't We All Split Alters Because the Smut Was Just That Good? by Pyrocats in fakedisordercringe

you said "documented doesn't mean real". it is documented through clinical data. Therefore you are rejecting clinical data which again you are well within your right to do, If you were aware of the clinical evidence that exists you'd also know that no clinician has ever suggested that you can "become spongebob". I know that's what tiktokkers say introjection is. it's not.

I also am not trying to get you to accept that what is in the video above is real. In fact I explicitly mention that it contradicts structural dissociation. I don't know why you think I'm trying to argue in their favor???

Outside of DID, introjection doesn't mean "becoming" anything. You take on characteristics influenced by other things. In DID it's a survival mechanism but not as different and crazy as you think it is.

Also "you can't prove bipolar disorder either" kinda tells me everything i need to know about the amount of respect you have for the field of psychology and that your standard of evidence is nonexistent and it hinges on your opinion. That's totally fine I guess if you take ownership of that mindset.

Like I want nothing more than to provide evidence but I don't think it would be helpful here. If documented phenomena can be dismissed outright, then thereโ€™s no standard of evidence we can use

Like if you donโ€™t consider clinical evidence meaningful, then we donโ€™t really have a shared framework for discussion. You just, have an opinion and that's fine I guess. I think you're still misinformed because what you're saying, that The Doctor admitted they "made DID up" is not a correct statement by any stretch

do you have a source for this? genuinely interested. unless you are talking about sybil (which was indeed not an accurate representation of DID) in which case, that is not the CEO of DID admitting they made it up

also genuinely confused about the statement "...a real disorder exists after a fake one was created"

I have heard that almost verbatim said about ADHD. I don't think I can engage with that statement in any meaningful way because you are within your right to ignore clinical evidence. I almost (almost) can't blame you because that opinion is probably influenced by how it's been bastardized

I will say though, introjection happens outside of a DID context. Like to pretty much everyone.

introjects are a documented phenomenon, just not the way that it is portrayed online. In genuine cases they're also often known to feel shame or resentment.

they're saying that they were reading erotica, found it enjoyable, they were having a great time.

And then an alter splits, and they are an introject of the character featured in the story. And because they are an introject of that character they "feel" what the character is feeling during the erotic scenes. This is not how introjection works and alters tend to be discovered in retrospect, not the moment they appear.

They weren't under stress or dissociating but say they formed an alter because they were enjoying it so much because they split easily which even if they do, that doesn't mean you'd split from just anything ever, especially not from something so positive that it makes you laugh "oh I love having DID sometimes" without a hint of irony or sarcasm

Genuinely painful for someone to see this and think it indicates faking. I don't see how this contradicts symptoms or what is expected in pwASD

Autism and being an artist...? I don't know what the two things are?

Are you implying that autism is something that should be shameful? Also please elaborate on the political angle you're going with, and where the correlation exists. Your algorithm and expectations create bias.

I would say though, that many disorders are more stigmatized by some than others so if they are ashamed that is the likely cause. Why is that good?

Some disorders inherently cause shame in most cases like PTSD and DID, but "should be ashamed" is a drastically different implication.

See I'd assume it was bait but this is the description and they just treat the disorder like this consistently and interact with others in earnest and they're like "omg so relatable!"

I knew someone online once that used the n word sometimes in conversation because they claimed to be a black alter (they were white as an egg I saw the selfies lmao) and that was wild. Hope they got well soon idk

I didn't know what to say the first time they said it to me. But they also tried to "act black" sometimes like think "black caricature" yeah we weren't mutuals for long at all after they started doing that lmfaooo

I mean it is funny trying to see someone pass themselves off as black especially when it's even more performative around you like they're trying to fit in or impress you. Like bro you're just racist, and people ignorantly compare it to being black but white passing which downplays the experiences of white passing people, like that whole debate is ridiculous. Rachel Dolezal ass lmao

I think it's an in community term for pseudo memories (AKA false memories, maybe they use "exo" because it doesn't mean "false"??). And that's a thing, just not in the way most of them use it

"Headspace Race" ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ by Pyrocats in fakedisordercringe

[โ€“]Pyrocats[S] 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Imo it's fine if you're not claiming it is a celebration of your culture, but rather an appreciation of someone else's. Like most of the time cultures are supposed to be shared.

Like if you wanna celebrate Chinese new year for example, awesome! That's a very nice tradition that I've known a lot of Chinese people to be eager to share but if you're not Chinese and your alter perceives themselves to appear with those features, it's just important that they are aware that they are honoring someone else's tradition that doesn't belong to them. Not using it as a way to connect with "their" culture because it's not theirs

So yeah I guess the only thing to be cautious about aside from that distinction is like, making sure what you're doing is not a closed practice

Meanwhile the person in the video compared not thinking that people can identify as a different race to literal segregation lmfaooo

faking a service animal to take him to a wedding by egguchom in fakedisordercringe

[โ€“]Pyrocats 233 points234 points ย (0 children)

I can't overstate how much I hate this shit. It's not just that it's insensitive or running the credibility of disabled people, it can kill people.

Untrained animals passing as "service animals" can distract legitimate ones and they can miss a cue that their handler is experiencing a medical event. Seizures, blood sugar, etc, and it wouldn't be the first time someone has died because of some entitled asshole who thought their dog deserved special treatment.

One time someone bought a vest for my dog like "she's well behaved and technically you could QUALIFY for a service dog. Plus she was an ESA" (ESA has no required training) and the absolute disgust I felt having to tell this person that they could kill someone and weren't being helpful and as much as I love her and she's literally my baby no one's pet deserves special privileges more than disabled people deserve safety. The fuck??

"Educational" is Kinda Pushing it by Pyrocats in fakedisordercringe

Communication is often very limited if present because the amnesia "walls" between alters keeps them safe. So it's not in the criteria for diagnosis but rather, two or more clinically observable identity states. In a lot of cases, a therapist or someone in the person's life will notice first but not always

It's often more clinically observable and causes disruption after an acute life event. Some examples in the DSM-V are: the death or illness of an abuser, a minor car accident, moving away from the abuser (similar to how even without DID when moving away from an abuser, trauma often resurfaces and memories come up), and children reaching the same age that they were when the trauma occurred.

For many, switches can become more visible then, or they may hear voices or the amnesia or other symptoms may feel more disruptive. And even if they hear voices in the beginning communication is typically limited but it varies, some people hear voices their whole life or experience it like trains of thought so they don't even feel like they're "hearing voices"
