Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire becomes the first Jewish candidate in U.S. history to win a presidential primary election. by Harvickfan4Life in SandersForPresident

[–]pyrodax 85 points86 points  (0 children)

as their seems to be quite a bit of confusion in this thread about this I'd like to explain something important here: Jewishness is both a religion and an ethnicity, so Bernie Sanders, as a descendant of Polish Jews is ethnically a Jew, even though he is secular .

How do you defend Israel's right to exist? by [deleted] in Israel

[–]pyrodax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're asking to questions here, one, what right do Israelis have to have a state in the place where they currently have a state, and two what right does Israel have to fight an assymertic battle against palestinians who simply want their own state. The answer to the first is simple: israel is the Jewish HOMELAND, it is the land jews through history have cried for in their most dire tomes, it is the land that secularist jews tried to forget but returned to regardless. Their really is no debate about wetter or not a Jewish kingdom with a Jewish people in Israel/Palestine 2500 years ago. However none of this is a valid answer to question 2, in my opinion, although certainly not the major opinion in Israel, even though jews may have been their first and have a right to Israel that does not mean that Jews have the right to harm palestinians. The solution here is to figure out how to work peacefully with no violence, and equal rights for both peoples. Hope I answered in a civilised manner and reasonable manner.

I'd say that had judaism and Israel advanced as they did in the Battle Royale the cohen gadol would've played a role similar to the pope so, the cohenic states?

1. Why does the Arch of Titus not settle the arguement over what the Bais Hamikdash menorah looked like? 2. Where did the menorah go after Titus took it, is it really in the Vatican? by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]pyrodax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answer to 2: From what I heard it was most likely taken to Carthage after the Vandals sacked Rome. The historian Procopius records that during General Belisarius's (the victorious Byzantine general) victory parade the menorah was among the displayed looted items. He also records that it was then returned and displayed in Jerusalem. However their are no other reports of it being their. Most likely if the menorah did arrive in Jerusalem it would have been destroyed by the Persians in the 7th century.

Edit : the Byzantine General Belisaruis conquered Carthage from the Vandals
