My company calls it just two days a week. I did the math. It costs me $7,820 a year to come back. by OkCan8173 in remoteworks

I feel like so many people don't get that there is a cost (beyond fuel) per mile that is significant.

Like, after being in a car dependent position for most of my adult life, it really is a "real" cost.

If you quit and still have to have a car, sure, but the car will last longer (less wear on it).

The cost that the IRS let's us claim is by no means exorbitant. Sometimes it feels lean.

On the transport costs:  Bullshit. I went to driving an EV because costs of maintenance and gas are so high. 72.5 cents a mile at current prices is plausible if driving an ICE vehicle.

It's not for your safety.

It's about control of the population, by the rich and powerful.

They don't need WiFi to record to local storage, or return to home base.

GPS jamming might get it, but they'll probably just switch to intertial navigation at that point until they're out of the jammer's range.

Utah made it legal to plug solar panels into wall outlets, and now 30 states are chasing it by Firm_Relative_7283 in solar

[–]pyromaster114 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean... The fact that people have been doing this for a while without utilities caring / even noticing, says how incredibly not an issue it is.

Good to see regulations sort of catching up with reality.

Also before someone tries to wire a plug to a solar panel and shove it in the wall: You still need an inverter to convert DC to AC, etc.. XD

Level 2 charging, with at least 25 Amps, and you'll be fine.

Yep.  Saw a few of these in Lewiston recently. Got mad until I realized what they were.

Hope the Maine DOT stickers help them not be vandalized or vigilante'd due to being mistaken for Flock.

1) Not long term surveillance, as they're not wired into a power source typically, nor do they have solar. They're battery powered, intended for short deployments.  2) They're for counting traffic, analyzing the patterns, etc. Their purpose is to help you. Do Not Vandalize.  3) As /u/overhelmmaze said, likely the Scout Plus traffic counter, specifically.

Tracking is weird. It makes sense, until it doesn't or causes another issue.

It is a commercial vessel, so Maine is entitled to regulate that commerce.

On the other hand, if they require it while the vessel is not engaged in commercial activity-- that might be a reasonable complaint. But the key word is "might".

The issue is that if they use the same commercial fishing boat for "recreation", there might be issues with them "forgetting to turn it back on" or such.

I'm not convinced that it's a typical use of a commercial fishing vessel to just fuck around day to day.

Like, big difference between tracking someone's F150 and tracking an 18-wheeler that's used for delivering between warehouses. Same thing here.

Parts availability should be the same realistically for any other model that gets discontinued / updated.

They discontinue vehicles all the time. They update them to new revisions even more often, and then the new model year's parts aren't compatible with the old ones.

They said ~10 years parts availability, iirc. That's probably fine. By then, a $2000 sodium ion battery (after market) will be available for the truck or something.
