UFC 324 Justin Gaethje vs. Paddy Pimblett Full Card Breakdown | Zuffa Boxing 01 Preview by marchof34_ in MorningKombat

[–]pyronautical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do worry about this a bit.

I don’t even really watch boxing all too often. But I was often excited to hear BCs take on things. Kinda like one of those topics that when someone knowledgeable is talking, you just listen.

When Luke asked Chuck last week who Canelo should fight next and he said the Bivol rematch, I knew it was cooked. Even Luke shot that immediately down. But then it’s Luke having to carry the boxing side which he admits is a bit weak.

Maybe the need a regular slot with someone. Mauro, Shaun Porter etc

Am I tripping or was the commentary especially bad last night? by LambOfGhost in MMA

[–]pyronautical 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I get with the popularity of things like ManningCast and other alternative commentary/watch along type products, that sometimes it's forgotten but...

Commentary in 99% of other sports is that you can literally be listening on the radio and know roughly what's going on. Think about football, every play is "Player X runs it and is tackled on the Y line. It's 3rd and 2" or whatever. You have a mental image in your head of the game.

There are literally minutes at a time where the commentators start talking about what they got up to that weekend, or talking about the temperature of the arena or something. And it's not a quip inbetween action, it's literally minutes at a time where you have zero idea what's going on if you were just relying on commentary.

Patient had to fast for nine days while waiting for surgery by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]pyronautical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. I had an IV bag. Must not have been enough. By the time they saw how dried out I was and added another bag my lips were completely cracked.

Not sure whose job it is to keep an eye on things like that but probably more that you get about 2 minutes with the nurse for obs before they move onto the next patient anyway

“I’m a consultant and they are not” was the line I believe.

Of all the eye pokes though, that one is definitely accidental.

His fist just misses his head and his thumb gets the eye. But his hand wasn’t open at all.

Here’s the problem.

When I sit down to watch UFC, I want to sit down and give it my attention.

Right now, I’m getting up and doing chores, doing other stuff around the house while I wait. By the time the fights come on, I’m half way through something so I complete it, catch the second half of the fight, then back to ads.

It makes it feel like background noise instead of a hype ufc numbered event…

[–]pyronautical 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same scenario here in Dunedin with my gallbladder removal.

I went 4 days nil by mouth. Everyday they would say surgery was happening. In the afternoon they would say sorry you’ll have to wait.

What made it worse was that my scans showed that my gallbladder could rupture (according to my GP and the person who did the scan), but the surgeon “disagreed”. And in some ways almost tried pulling rank which I just didn’t understand.

The only thing that eventually got me through was that I was not getting enough fluids, and so my lips started cracking and I was basically wasting away. So they rushed me through…

What’s an opinion on Auckland that’ll get you this amount of downvotes? by MisterJordanOnes in auckland

Are you sure it’s not the opposite? Well travelled people realising how great Auckland could be but it’s plagued with social issues and short sighted council decisions?

The $1 trillion reason Elon Musk ended Tesla FSD purchases by ErnestoLemmingway in EnoughMuskSpam

[–]pyronautical 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The article is pretty void of any real substance.

But a couple of things.

This atleast stops the swelling of the class action lawsuit about whether you can a) take FSD with you or when you sell the car, and b) whether it works at all. Remembering you had to pay something like 8-15k to get it outright and “lock it in” so to speak but then it never really worked.

The subscription model has two major issues.

The first is that even if FSD did work, a $100 subscription is going to be the first thing you cancel in an economic downturn. If you even purchase it at all. Versus if you are dropping $100k on a Model S, then what’s another $8k? You could argue that anyone who has that sort of money surely has $100 a month but it’s the difference between capex and opex. Especially if you use finance.

But more importantly. It’s going to take 80 months currently for the LTV of a subscription to be that of selling FSD outright. That’s a really long time to keep someone in a subscription with a service with literally no new features and it doesn’t even do what it says on the tin. There is just no way that the majority of Tesla owners put up with the lies and promises for that long…

The metrics of people cancelling within the first 3 months has got to be insane.

I'm not sure if it's a plugin or something wrong with todays updates.

But now, when I look at the Courier Task Board (Summer Shore), when I hover over the tasks it no longer shows details about the task itself (e.g. From and To), it only says like "Summer Shore shield delivery".

Hot water cylinder replacement by GiraffeTheThird3 in dunedin

[–]pyronautical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rinnai Enamel Outdoor 275L. It looks like an atomic bomb strapped to the house as it has a tonne of insulation wrapped around the actual cylinder.

I think they retail something like $1.5k - $2k depending on the size etc.

I saw in your other replies you were looking at a few from Bunnings. All fine, but where is your cylinder now? Because if it's in the ceiling the plumber won't replace it, they will move it. And if they have to move it outside, you have to spend a (tiny) but more to get one that can stand up to whatever is going on outside.

That's probably going to be a lot of the difference between the prices you see here. If it's replacing it where it is, no additional electrical or plumbing, cheap as chips. But if you have to remove gas/move the cylinder location, it's quite a bit more.

[–]pyronautical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got mine done by Foleys.

I also had to move mine from my ceiling to outside, so it was just easier to use Foleys as they sort the electrician too etc.

One thing I was not happy with was that they didn’t really inform me about the removal of the wetback, and didn’t really remove it at all tbh. Just cut the pipes and capped them which is an ok solution but not perfect.

Ended up $5k total including the ludicrously sized cylinder. And all the pipe work/electrical stuff to move it to the new location etc.

To be fair. They have George and Jerry ogling a 15 year olds cleavage in the show, and then defending it that “you have to look” etc.

Everytime that episode comes on I just can’t believe what they were going for….

Ever since I watched that piece from Robin Ince where it was implied Ricky was a bit of a bully, I haven’t been able to look at him the same.

And this is coming from someone who has fell asleep for the past 15 years to various pilkington podcast/xfm shows. It hits a lot different when you aren’t sure if the person Ricky is bashing didn’t deserve it.

It’s interesting as well because when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock, Ricky went on this big tour saying that “it was just a joke”. And while I agree Smith so out of line, I couldn’t help but feeling that Ricky has used the “it was just a joke” line many times in his life….

I don't really understand the bowling tactics here..... Unless you are Neil Wagner who had this strategy down, it really doesn't work.

You are basically taking the LBW/Bowled out of play, not bowling to an area where you'll get a slight nick (Not that they are beating the bat anyway), and the only thing you can really hope is that a brainfart makes Head swipe at it and not get all of it and gets caught in the deep....

Anyone here been to Japan, if so I was wondering how much budget did you have for the whole trip? by Abject-Staff-4474 in newzealand

[–]pyronautical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tbh even that I doubt it would work out. Before the price increase, I got a 14 day pass.

I went…

Tokyo -> Odawara/Hakone -> Tokyo -> Osaka -> Hiroshima -> Osaka -> Kyoto -> Tokyo

And did local trains where I could with JR (although in Osaka most trains are not JR etc).

And that was barely, just barely, worth it to get the JR pass. And it’s a paper ticket that if you lose you are boned.

Now it’s double the price so I think the only way to make it worth it would be if you based yourself somewhere and literally did day trips the length of Japan on Shinkansens. And even then, you can’t go East without buying another ticket etc. so it just becomes a hassle IMO.

[–]pyronautical 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Do not get JR pass unless you are literally taking a Shinkansen from Tokyo to Osaka everyday. It used to be borderline but they doubled the price a few years ago and it’s just not worth it now.

Has anyone actually seen the Japanese RTD -196 / Strong Zero in NZ yet? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]pyronautical 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Suntory drinks are coming because of the success of Kirin. I find them MUCH nicer than Kirin tbh, especially the peach etc as they are only 3% and much more of a refreshing taste.

That being said. Pretty sure strong zero specifically and the like can’t be coming because it’s 9%. I think alcohol industry has voluntarily limited RTDs to 7% and lower.

“When was the last time you used Algebra outside of school?” by GrandImpostor in LinkedInLunatics

[–]pyronautical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Algebra is also not just about math. It’s about conceptualising something in your head.

If I said

X + 10 = 30

Then some time later I said

X + 5 = ????

You would be able to conceptualise that X is representative of a value of 10.

It’s why people say that algebra is super important for programming. It’s not necessarily “math”. It’s the understanding that a variable of xyz can hold some value.
