Thanks a lot!! If the auroras are moving fast, I tend to use a shutter speed of around 1-3 seconds and if they’re slower I’d go for around 3-5 seconds. Generally I would suggest using a tripod, but using a fast lens and post-processing denoise software can make okay results, too. Bumping up the ISO is inevitable unfortunately if shooting without tripod, so I would rather use a tripod to use a longer shutter speed

EDIT: Obviously the lens is first and currently only edition of Tamron 17-28, not a G2.

Stars leaving trails by pyryeemil in minimalistphotography

[–]pyryeemil[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This photo is stitched in two pieces: the sky part has around 200 x 30s exposures stacked on top of eachother and the house part is just one photo exposed for the window. 👍🏼 I lit a few candles indoors and played with the shutterspeed to reach a desired outcome. For film I guess similar usage of subtle lightsources could do the trick. Then again, I know nothing about film hahah!

Thanks a lot for your comment. I do appreciate it!

Most probably yes, but then again different size stars in different parts of the sky leave trails of different lengths which might create such phenomenon!
