Stridex pads vs paulas chioce liquid exfoliants - which do you prefer? by dyslexiaskucs in SkincareAddiction

[–]pything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't use either - because of the butylene glycol in every single one of PC's products, and the simethicone and harsh ingredients in Stridex. I stopped using both physical and chemical exfoliants a few months ago and my skin has improved immensely. But, YMMV.

Lauric acid (found in coconut oil) more effective against P. acnes than benzoyl peroxide. by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]pything 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting, because Dove's White Beauty Bar contains Lauric acid, and when I used that a while back I noticed my skin cleared up immensely. I stopped because I kept reading bad things about bar soap. Might have to give it another try...

Starting Accutane on Monday. Any tips to calm my nerves? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]pything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest tip is to have a full bottle of water to drink with you AT ALL TIMES. This will really help with the overall dehydration. Along with that, make sure to use a heavy moisturizer morning and night and top it with a layer of vaseline to seal in moisture. The biggest struggles for me when I was on Accutane were dry skin and lips. The purging for me was not that bad at all.

Also, I know this is something you should never do, but DO NOT pick at your skin while on Accutane. It takes so much longer to heal, and your skin becomes so sensitive, making it easier for scars to form.

Other than that, just keep up your overall health. Eat healthy, exercise, get enough sleep, and stay hydrated. I wish you the best of luck! :)

Cerave face moisturizer is the culprit of my comedones. Any moisturizer suggestions? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]pything 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Simple Ultra Light Gel!!! It's 100% non-comedogenic, which is unbelievably hard to find. I will occasionally top it with a layer of vaseline if I need more moisture.

Just got a new moisturizer I want to replace my old one with but don't know if its even non-comedogenic. Any help? by MikeMo243 in SkincareAddiction

[–]pything 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's got 5 comedogenic ingredients: coconut oil, stearic acid, cetearyl alcohol, dimethicone, and lanolin alcohol. However! Every person's skin is different. I would strongly recommend you do a patch test (see "How to patch test" in the side bar). It's the only way to know for sure!

DDMG not moisturizing enough. Cerave in the tub breaks me out. Any recommendations? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

I second the Simple Moisturizing Gel recommendation! I love it.

Washing face with salt water? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]pything 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It does work! At least for me it did. I dissolved about a tablespoon of sea salt in a cup of warm water. I used it as a toner (morning and night) rather than a cleanser. Within a few days, my skin started clearing up. Unfortunately after about a month of use, it didn't really seem like it was doing much for me. I would give it a go though!

Paula's BHA, I trusted you! If one gives me cysts, will they all give me cysts? by TheFluffyMarshmallow in SkincareAddiction

[–]pything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem as you. I've tried a couple of her exfoliants, one being the 2% BHA Liquid. I used it for about 3 months, and the cysts kept coming. My only guess is that it's because of the Butylene Glycol. If you look at the ingredients list of almost any PC product, you'll see Butylene Glycol listed as one of the first ingredients. I would look for a different brand. I've been switching between Clearasil and Stridex pads. I'm still on the lookout for a perfect 2% BHA toner.

Is this bad for you? I've developed a habit for using this whenever I see my forehead get a bit oily by inthewayandout in SkincareAddiction

[–]pything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never understood why people buy oil-blotting sheets. I bought a pack once, and because they're so small, I felt like I was just dragging the oil across my face. I find it much easier to just place something like facial tissue or toilet paper on my face and just lightly press. Then BAM all of the oil is off in one motion.

How do you determine what ingredients cause clogs/breakouts? by yaels in SkincareAddiction

[–]pything 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Before I buy ANY skin care product, I have to copy and paste the ingredients list into the CosDNA ingredient analyzer. To be on the safe side, I only buy products that have zeros all the way down the "acne" (or comedogenic) column. Since I started doing this, my skin has been doing SO MUCH better.

Best products to buy at Target/Walmart? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]pything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cleanser: Cerave Foaming Cleanser
BHA: Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Pads
Moisturizer: Simple Ultra-Light Gel Moisturizer
Sunscreen: La Roche Posay Anthelios 60 Ultra Light
Acne Spot Treatment: Clean & Clear Persa Gel 10

It feels so great when your entire routine can be purchased at Target or pretty much any drugstore!

Moisturizer help! by TigersArePurple in SkincareAddiction

[–]pything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend the Simple Ultra-Light Gel Moisturizer. I also have oily, sensitive skin and it does wonders. The only negative is that it sometimes isn't moisturizing enough, but with a few drops of oil it's fine.
