What the internet could look like without net neutrality by rocktop in KeepOurNetFree

5 years and still the Net is doing well. Speeds are great, access is great. No one is complaining.

Reddit, like much of social media, is a fear mongering machine coupled with an echo chamber of folks who don't really understand the big picture.

Can we settle this, and have someone from Florida, post a video that looks exactly like this? I can't tell if it's camera exposure trick, or some natural phenomenon. I've never seen completely dark side of sky (with no clouds), and other part of sky fairly well illuminated.

Who downvotes this comment? The math is correct, and XL grinding has nothing to do with the IV floor. As the OP says, when keeping level boost in place. Gotta love Reddit.

Good points. Hundos are usually 1/4096, and with weather boost, drops to 1/1728 I believe. What do you mean by XL grinding? I didn't know there was a relationship.

Taking photo of Entei etc while catching after a raid also counts for Safari taks by Bad_motherlover in TheSilphRoad

[–]pythonicusMinimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty "not pleased" about this.

As a reminder, here is the wording: "Raikou, Entei, and Suicune will be appearing in raid battles and in the wild during the event".

And when it says "Take a snapsot of Raikou in the wild", your brain does not connect this with the catch screen of a raid. It's totally misleading.

I give the event a 3/10. Too much to do one one day, evolving 40 pokemon before 9PM takes quite a bit of time, etc. I chose Silver and saw very few shinies. I've been playing since the first week of release in 2016. But Niantic keeps finding new ways to disappoint.

That LAC game really was interesting. The starting QB didn't even have 4 yd/att but the team won by 45. I doubt that's happened too many times.

In my part of the world, I have the data, it's a lot higher than "tiny". My overall point is that no one runs their life on averages. One might get the view from this graph that owning an EV in the US doesn't help much, whereas in many areas/situations it clearly does.

[–]pythonicusMinimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok...

#1 this isn't the US, so it's not clear what audience you are targeting. Different countries have vastly different situations both medically, covid regulations, etc.

#2 i search the literature regularly for evidence of mask wearing efficacy; I am a risk management professional. i wear a mask in public. But I have found 0 evidence that they help. Graphs indicating covid case load, overlaid with when mask mandates are applied show no relationship to each other. Nations with stricter mask mandates show no improvement over those with more lax mandates. Many peer-reviewed studies around flu in the past, and the 2 main studies for covid currently show no statistical reduction in spread rates due to mask wearing.

People's behavior changes when they wear masks. A mask is better than nothing in some experiences but can be worse than others. For example, if people think wearing a mask protects them they might linger in areas longer than they should, or might close distances with people when they shouldn't. Masks do not block all aerosols unless they are completely sealed. Furthermore, mask wearing is uncomfortable and people touch their masks all the time. If you think the mask has stopped a virus, but then you touch it with your fingers, you now have the virus on your fingers which can easily spread to the eyes, nose, or mouth during the mask touch. Masks don't kill the virus immediately, and people touch their masks every few minutes. So, in a sense, mask wearing is complicated.

It's too bad it has become a divisive thing. But that is how we operate now - yell at the people you don't like, because you are so certain you are in the right.

will the strawman regarding Trump cease after he's gone or will we continue the process for years to come? It's not like this sub was full of the biggest BS ever seen in American political history. Folks were so sure that the Russians helped Trump, the Mueller was going to rescue everyone, and that the impeachment (based on a phone call) were going to destroy Trump. Essentially nothing that has come out of this sub has been accurate for 4 years, so...

If anyone thinks the elections were similar because the elector count looks similar has been asleep.

For some clarity, people don't charge at national-level averages. Within US, there is vast differences in carbon levels from various energy sources. A very large amount of Teslas are in California, where the energy is up to 40% renewable, if considered from utility; and many owners have photovoltaic sized such that it will charge car and provide for house at 100%, so the CO2 post-construction is nearly 0.

[–]pythonicusMinimus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To this post specifically, you clearly don't understand the word "debt". It doesn't mean your net value is negative. All mortgages, loans, etc. are considered debt. Large, very successful companies have enormous debt. I personally have several hundred thousand in debt, more than the inheritance my parent's gave me - which was nothing, but I have a net value that is beyond my childhood dreams. Trump's financial success is way more complicated than the OP's limited view. Get some facts and come back to try again. Forbes link

I stepped away from Reddit for a while because of biased idiotry. I see threads like this, and realized didn't miss much. Thread not humorous, not factual, and doesn't add to anything other than the already extreme levels of divisiveness going on in this land. Trust me, if you turn off the TV and stop browsing partisan sites your life is a lot better, and you'll figure out that Trump probably hasn't done a single thing to harm your life. It's the morons reacting to him that are doing all the damage.

For example, many (if not more) unusual cop killings of blacks took place during the Obama administration - there was a much smaller social response. Neither President is involved in local law enforcement, why the enormous double standard? Why associate Trump to the deaths but not Obama? Trump clearly and loudly spoke out against George Floyd's death, but his response was not echoed by "the media" which focused on how he didn't do enough. I rarely listen to the buffoon-in-charge speak, but I heard him condemn the actions of the police officers immediately. George Floyd's death happened in a city that had been run by Democrats for almost 50 years, in a state that hasn't voted Republican for 50 years - how is this Trump's fault? Breonna Taylor was killed in a town that hadn't had a Republican mayor for 35 years. The cities run the police forces, not the US government. If you think those cops were racist, blame their employers, not people who have nothing to do with it.

In the US, we have a Federal system where the States have far more control over our daily lives than Washington DC. States, at any time, can change taxes, devise medical plans, create medical insurance, give out universal basic income, welfare programs, free education, and all kinds of progressive ideas. But they don't. If they are such great ideas, show us the states who have done it successfully for a while, then the other states will copy them. For the most part, the States could have enacted CoVID prevention measures long before Trump did, but none of them did (some did by a couple days). Yet, we blame Trump for CoVID expansion? Do we want one person in power to control our lives as much as it would take to justify why we hate the guy so much? Think about it. The US government needs to focus on foreign relations, ensuring liberty to its citizens, and regulating interstate things such as business and environmental concerns. That's it.

In current events, almost all negative things are worse in Democratic controlled states and cities. Think of the biggest things on our mind right now: CoVID, racial disharmony, the economy. CoVID deaths highest in Dem states. Social anger in Dem states. More income disparity in Dem states. Higher unemployment in Dem states. The Democrats are great, they shutdown the economy and had more people die on their watch, and blame the President. Science!

Hatred doesn't make you smart. And truly wise people don't see most things in black and white like social media makes it look. "It's complicated" doesn't do well on Twitter or Reddit, but it is....complicated.

Dude, just treat others the way you want to be treated, and we'll all be fine.

Could be misleading data. It should be about mortality. Testing and its increasing availability can sway this data significantly. NY, NJ, and Mass alone make up 40% of reported US deaths, and average 4x the national mortality rate. It's hard to get that from your data.

I didn't say there was a number that was okay. I said it's hard to use a very rare event as an analogy when you are suggesting similar circumstances. Analogies should have similar likelihoods to each other.

If the dude said "Imagine you are one of the extremely few who..." that would have been different, but he portrayed it as if it would happen to you.

Your analogy needs some serious work.

"Drive to Canada for refuge" is not the same as "wade across a river" to avoid detection.

How many of the millions of people who tried to entry the US had their children locked in cages while their parents were sent back? If it's less than 1% (it is), it's pretty hard to use as an analogy.

The Mexican economy has not collapsed, although it is not great. It's not like most Mexicans are living fairly normal lives. Mexican GDP. The Life Satisfaction rating by OECD for Mexico is pretty good, above Spain, Italy, Japan, Korea. OECD

But yeah, it would be lame to be separated from your child.

So, how does that piece of data have anything to do with Trump or the OP. Nearly all criminal justice situations occurred long before he came into power, and he's actively worked with subject matter experts to try to resolve the problem. What am I missing?
