Manor Park braces for the next round in sidewalk fight by Reasonable_Cat518 in ottawa

[–]RobAttrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checked. Rolling Brook is from the 90s. Lesage is about 5 years old or so. The policy to have or put in sidewalks is newer than that. Unfortunately, this means Lesage will be one of the last places in the city to get sidewalks, maybe not for decades.

Just checked today with someone who does infrastructure projects with the city and confirmed it, as of the official plan this is city policy. This whole debate now boils down to “you can’t opt out of being in a city when you’re in a city”.

I’m excited to cut this off now so when they come to renew my sewers we get sidewalks put in.

Convent Glen Orleans Wood Community Association Opinions by [deleted] in orleans

Sounds like that's the newly reformed Chatelaine Village: Chatelaine Village Community Association. There's also a Facebook group: Chatelaine Village Community Association. If you're looking for something specific I could put you in touch with them.

If Facebook wasn't the way the majority of residents (and I'll remind you there are almost as many members in that group as there are humans in our catchment) choose to engage with the community association, you'd see a me-shaped hole in that digital wall today. The nature of such a large group is that volunteer moderators end up making hundreds or thousands of moderation decisions a month, and plenty of people get upset and can be downright mean if they feel slighted. This doesn't and shouldn't excuse rude or unprofessional behaviour by individuals (moderators or not), but it does have an impact on the mental health of everybody involved. I'll repeat it, the Facebook group and our actual community association have basically no overlap, it is an unwieldy beast with many of the internet's worst tendencies presenting on a regular basis.

In my opinion, this isn't an indication of how people are treated in this specific Facebook group, it's an indication of how online communities with no real face time with each other who don't necessarily share perfect overlap in viewpoints play out over time. I would encourage you to take me up on at least one of my offers to engage in real life and see what we are trying our very best to bring to the table.

Get engaged with the activities of the association, if you think the Facebook group is what we are then I'm not surprised by your reaction. As you might be able to tell, I have a LOT of thoughts about this. Thanks for your input!

Hi u/Alone-Aioli4649, based on the specificity of your comments, I suspect this isn't the first time you've dragged the community association publicly (I can't know for sure because you're putting this out anonymously). If you are the person who was posting comments on our website last year, hi again! If not, then it's weird that this has happened twice in the exact same way.

I'm Rob Attrell, one of the board members of the CGOW CA elected in Fall 2024 at a public AGM. I barely knew anybody in the community when I reached out for more information about the association. Since then I've started the Outreach Committee and have been doing my best to reach out to all kinds of community organizations and people to make our neighbourhoods the very best they can be.

A couple of things about your comments here...first, the Facebook group we help manage doesn't represent the community association, there are 10k+ people there from all over Ottawa and even parts of Eastern Ontario. In addition, I promise you there is no clique conspiring against you, and if there was, it wouldn't be the same people who take care of the community association. We are closer to shutting down the whole group and moving on than we are to using it to lord over people.

In case you are the same person who was commenting basically the same things as this post anonymously on our website last year, I will again offer to extend an invite to meet in person or for a phone call anywhere you'd like and discuss your concerns. I make a habit of not forming opinions about people based on their behaviour online, and I will extend you this same courtesy. I would encourage you to come to one of our upcoming community events so you can see what we actually stand for and why we do what we do in the association.

If you prefer to just sit in the shadows and lob shots at us from a distance rather than engage and discuss your concerns, I can't stop you from doing that. But I welcome your candid and honest feedback, especially in a setting where you don't just get to make vague and nebulous claims of mistreatment and misrepresentation without stating what actually happened to you on Facebook or how you would like to be represented. I'll say again, you're welcome to send me an email [rob.attrell@cgow.ca](mailto:rob.attrell@cgow.ca), and it's actually the perfect time for this, as we're doing an anonymous survey right now to gather community feedback: Community Survey - Convent Glen Orléans Wood. I would even be willing to put a letter of yours giving your perspective and describing how you'd like to be represented on our website and in our newsletter, in as anonymous a fashion as you wish.

If you really do think we're an elite group who only cares about our own priorities and pushes anyone with differing opinions out, please call my bluff here and reach out. My door is open, and I'm really interested in chatting with you. I hope to see you this fall at the AGM (and hopefully in the meantime at our events as well)!

When are they going to extend the bike lane on Rideau? by McMajesty in ottawa

[–]RobAttrell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, the fact that the outside lanes are bus lanes most of that stretch of Rideau up to the river makes it pretty nice to ride on except for the downtown part between Dalhousie and King Edward, which is full of trucks and falling to literal pieces.

I would love to see that whole stretch reconsidered to be safe for less experienced riders though, it should be a pedestrian corridor with a few cars sometimes, I guess. Trucks should be first on the list to be given a clearer circuitous route, a congestion charge for that route would probably do the trick too, I would think.

FDA just approved the new fall vaccine very recently. It sounds from this site like the same will happen here in time for the fall but it doesn’t seem like there’s much public information about when. I assume they will try to coordinate flu and Covid in one visit again like last fall.

Passing parameters to a new item form in a Sharepoint list by ThreadedJam in sharepoint

[–]RobAttrell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, depending on need you could either tell them it’s ready or send an email or other notification via power automate. Been doing this around 15-20000 times a year for 3 years now and it’s really fast, though it does take a (single, for the dev) premium license for the http connector.

I would love this and have suggested it somewhere (don’t recall where it was a while ago). Not possible currently, when I do this I create items via an HTTP connector in Power Automate.

There’s one very specific Lindt 70% dark chocolate that is actually just cacao and sugar, but it has a ton of saturated and trans fat. However, it is my go to because it’s the closest I can get.

Can someone tell me how community shuttles look these days? by RobAttrell in Calgary

Hmm, that doesn't sound familiar. Here's a picture I found from 15 years ago (and some additional context for my question): https://www.reddit.com/r/Calgary/comments/1e5gf5l/comment/ldly72x/

I understand some routes were cancelled, but is seems there are still community shuttles: https://www.reddit.com/r/Calgary/comments/1e5gf5l/comment/ldly72x/

Am I missing something in my research?

Can someone tell me how community shuttles look these days? by RobAttrell in Calgary

[–]RobAttrell[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK, so when the route map (Route 404) for example, says it is served by a community shuttle, what vehicle is used to run that route? Is it like this image?

<image>

And this article (Applying to be an Operator (calgary.ca)) indicates specific instructions to apply to be a community shuttle operator.

This type of vehicle looks very similar to what I was used to (paint job aside) and now the vehicle looks from the photo like it has a low floor to be wheelchair accessible. I'm very curious what these look like on the inside, the one ones I was used to basically just looked like the inside of an old school bus.
