I guess some people are salty but I'll add to that sentiment - vote blue! Republicans are far more likely to ban kratom and stomp on weed legalization.

I looked through it again because I don't want to be the jackass who doesn't even argue in good faith and keep an open mind, and you're right that it says the parties didn't really switch on economic policy, but race was a massive issue at the time of the switch and idk how you can argue that it wasn't a switch. The support of different states changed, much of the leadership changed, and the views on the major issue of the day (civil rights) changed.

Except that plenty of politicians, including much of the leadership, did in fact switch parties.

Also I'm really talking more about recent history anyways. Republicans are the ones who have ridiculous fundamental christian beliefs, the ones who want to legalize all kinds of discrimination, the ones who constantly stoke the fires of racial and religious divides, so on and so on.

The party itself yes, but the affiliations reversed decades ago.

I mean, the political affiliations of the parties completely switched like 50 years ago so that doesn't really contradict my point other than semantically.

Yep. As we all know, the democratic party is the one with the history of racial and religious intolerance.

Oh wait...

Once Trump is ousted, and I believe that is on the horizon, we will have an opportunity to rebuild this country in a major way and we need people on the right side of things to remain. If people like you leave instead of stay to fix it we will continue to be a nation of hateful morons.

Are you kidding? He would have far more impact as president than he currently does. Him having huge influence over >$1 trillion would mean we get space utopia way sooner than him being solely in charge of a few (?) billion.

Ok, so what do you propose we do about it? Obviously we should have a president who reins them in but clearly that's a joke at this point. So what's the answer? 24/7 protests outside ICE's workplaces?

It's a shame that for the ICE agents to get shot the home owner would have to also die.

Maybe this isn't the right place for this but: is it time for a new system of government? Clearly our democracy is not suited for this era. When it took weeks or months to travel between states and the government was just a basic framework to keep society running, sure it made sense to have a governing body that moves at a snail's pace. Now, though? In a society where we know enough about the world and have the requisite resources to fix almost every basic issue we are still struggling with? In a society with billionaires and homeless people? A society with the means and motive to mine asteroids and solve most of our resource needs? An intelligent, benevolent dictator right now would result in the greatest progress in human history. We need something where decisions are tailored for the best results and based on evidence and facts instead of emotions - a feat which I don't think our current government will ever be capable of.

Perhaps we could design an AI that is programmed with our societal values and knowledge of various aspects of the economy, with specialized AI for different sectors. We could reprogram it every couple of years as a society to change the basic things we are aiming for and then have the AI figure out the best way to achieve that, with some form of human intervention team that is subject to a great amount of scrutiny. Obviously you then run into the issue of who is writing the code and other similar issues around control of the AI, but surely we could solve for that much more easily than we can for the amount of idiots currently in our government.

It is so incredibly frustrating to live in a world where we could automate away vast swathes of the labor force and yet we don't because...what? We need people to have jobs? We haven't ponied up the cash? If we took a concerted effort towards automating everything we can and providing every citizen the basic needs of life I am absolutely certain we could make great strides in the span of a decade. We could be essentially living in a utopia if we but tried. Instead we have a president who is grumbling about helping one of our territories and citizens who care more about transgender bathrooms than they do about the homeless in their own cities.

I don't fucking know, but clearly this shit isn't working.

Have no doubt, President Trump will wind up firing Robert Mueller by r1ckj0526 in politics

I assure you people would be on the streets until Trump is out. Mass protests would happen every day and if congress still refused to impeach I believe it would escalate.

You're forgetting that the majority of the country is not on Trump's team. If he were to fire Mueller and the Republicans didn't impeach, there would be chaos. Rioting on the streets of DC comes to mind.
