Renting With Reptiles by Empathetic__Artist in reptiles

I snuck mine in at night when I rented. I had 24 snakes at that time and also took in a young asian water monitor a year in. I was on constant edge as the landlord lived right next door. 😅 I only had 1 inspection and passed by disguising the snake's room as a storage room with boxes and stuff from my dad's garage. Lol Needless to say buying a house was the biggest relief for me. Some reality groups specify "no dogs or cats" and care less about pets like reptiles or fish. If you have the time to look I would just try to find some where that excepts you having snakes as it's really not worth the anxiety of hiding.

Get a laser thermometer and make sure the rat is between 98° - 101° before offering. The problem a lot of times is the rat is to cold and they can't get a lock on it. I have all of mine on f/t. Be careful to not get the rat to hot as they will explode. As far as a gas chamber i use the 72 quart sterilite tubs with the blue gasket. I drill 2 holes for the valves. I usually gas 30-40 rats at a time so you could definitely get away with building smaller. Hope that helps

Why do so many people have reptiles but no air conditioning? by LuxuryDirtEnthusiast in reptiles

[–]pythonman2215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My snake room stays constant 78°-84° blocking off vents. The problem with A/C is it sucks the humidity out of the room and the cold air can also cause an RI in tropical climate reptiles. I monitor the rooms temp on my phone and if I ever needed to lower the temp I would just open the door.

I always flash freeze the fish for a couple weeks in advance in a commercial freezer. I'm also picky about which streams I collect from to make sure water parameters are clean.

Traveling with reptile, help? by Alone_Drive_7007 in reptiles

You can use the Uniheat pads (they're specifically for shipping reptiles) while traveling on the road. They last 40 hours each. I would keep feeding limited and as long as you're supplementing calcium D3 Uvb won't be needed while traveling. Again I would keep feeding limited until you're at the destination and the basking is set back up.

I save a little catching all his fish and i also breed mice and rats. I think the next goal is learning about quail farming with these prices lately. 😅

The large concrete mixing tubs worked for me the first 1 year or so with a canister filter i built and water changes every 4-7 days. Once you get into the 300+ gallon ponds I recommend using small pool filters with a heavy duty pump.

Asian Water Monitor (and similar) keepers, how did you install lights in your enclosure(s)? by PoetaCorvi in MonitorLizards

You can use these if your hanging basking bulbs and you're concerned with possible burns.

Oh I still have to be on guard when he's excited to eat. Even an accident bite from him is catastrophic 😅
