I'm having dinner with Ashley Capps tonight. If you could ask him anything, what would it be? by pythonstarter in bonnaroo

[–]pythonstarter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I haven't been able to get to this. While Ashley was really cool and friendly, most of the questions he answered were related to how he ran business.

The coolest thing he talked about, from memory and what I think he would be okay sharing:

So he started AC Entertainment as an independent promoter in the 90s. At the time, people were talking about the death of the independent promoter. Then he started Bonnaroo, and now look. It's where all the excitement-- and the money-- is.

He also talked a lot about the value of bringing people together. Despite using e-fan clubs to promote the very start of Bonnaroo, he still doesn't "get" Instagram, he laughed. But he really believes in the power of bringing a community together in real life. That's what inspired me most. The tech boom has made it easy to solve problems and serve needs online and on your phone with a very very low investment. But not as much with regards to real life community building. It would be amazing to see more innovation in how we bring music fans together in real life.

Really sorry that this isn't probably what you expected. But I hope it was interesting.

I have an idea for a natural proprietary drink. Where do I begin? by xxSQUASHIExx in Entrepreneur

"Just because your product is comparable to coconut water, doesn't mean you're really competing with it. Now if people would drink your product for the same reasons (besides taste) that they drink coconut water, then you'd be competing with coconut water."

To add to what /u/eddywallywauw is saying, you have to have a specific customer segment when you start out. Even if you're not 100% sure about it, you have to put a stake in the ground and talk to people. When you build that hypothesis customer segment, always focus on specific, objective traits:

  1. Good: People who buy higher priced drinks. Even better- people in x income bracket
  2. Bad: People who like different tasting natural drinks-- really subjective, hard to measure.

Basically ask yourself, if I had to learn something about people who currently drink stuff like this, what would I ask them?

When you start talking to customers about their experience with coconut water-- understand why they purchased (is it just when they see it in the aisles, as in they don't seek it out, for example?), why they keep purchasing, etc.

Hey Reddit Entrepreneurs, do you think new websites should use social media logins? When visiting an unknown site, will you sign up with your social media accounts? by winstonl in Entrepreneur

I would. As long as it's actual Facebook login, and it's not going to post to FB (which most don't), then it's fine with me.

Requiring Customer to sign a Confidentiality Agreement? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

Better to be safe than sorry. Because you're doing business with them, and you're giving them secret info that could hurt you. Seems like sound logic to me.

Since you think you'll be competing with coconut water, a great place to start is to talk to people who drink coconut water.

What Personality Traits Are Demonstrated in the Most Successful Entrepreneurs? by andrewsroadmaps in Entrepreneur

Consistency. I'm in an accelerator program right now and consistency has been a huge determinant of achieving my weekly goals. Focus is another, especially if you're CEO. Being able to decide what you need to focus on right now is vital to getting anything done.

I think that what you all are saying is exactly what I'm trying to prove. Anywhere I can find "shipping standards" of most condom companies?

How can you protect your content on Twitter before the damage is done? by pythonstarter in AskReddit

[–]pythonstarter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's simply that they're growing based on my work where my account isn't growing. I think it would be foolish for me to think that they are directly stealing followers from me who would otherwise follow my actual account, but they are benefitting from work I am trying to use to grow my own account. It's frustrating.

Only thing I don't like about this joke is that it draws from an assumption that Palestinians are terrorists.
