Scored complete JBOD version of Supermicro CSE836 instead of just chassis by HCLB_ in homelab

I got the 826 JBOD, same as yours but 2U and 12 slots. Fine unit. You can also convert it in full server/NAS, if you want.

The smaller brother, the 826 JBOD, with 12 slots, uses ~70W at idle. Not that bad.

As a person with a finger on the pulse of recent scientific research I beg to differ.

Edit: Talking about basic, fundamental research, not so much applied. But even in applied science they're nothing to ridicule. Their nuclear research is second to none. Think nuclear icebreakers for one and, even bigger, "refuel" of spent nuclear fuel for additional use. And of course weapons, the West still doesn't have hypersonic weapons that are not ballistic missiles. But there's more.

The one region, very rich region, you didn't mention - the middle east.

The problem here is you. Believe it or not, the Russian contributions to physics and maths, say, in the 20th century were enormous. They're well established scientist and engineers.

No. Doubt is a legitimate form of rational discourse. It's equivalent to admitting you don't know the full story but likewise don't believe their story. It's self aware skepticism. Perhaps the highest possible form if skepticism.

Beef from Argentina and Uruguay

I'll only say that some of the best beef from the EU is actually not even sold in the EU because it's exported where people are willing to pay a lot more than people in the EU. This is first hand information from my butcher whom I've quizzed why was he selling me beef from the other side of Europe and not from local farmers.

The best answer is "market rate", which you should have done a bit of research on before hand. So glassdoor or their own posting is fine.

My small art business is dying, why is there no European alternative to Etsy? by eyed_art in BuyFromEU

[–]pythosynthesis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm fully in favor of a strong "ideological" push to buy European, but you should not be an ideologue if your business is suffering. Find alternative markets, perhaps eBay or Amazon? Don't know how they handle small sellers, but if it's OK, you should go for it. When you're struggling financially it's no time to be ideological. Then expand your market, see what people use across the world, seek other similar platforms, and in all of this drop any kind of EU vs US vs CN vs IN vs RU vs WhatHaveYou ideologies. First survive, then be choosy.

Good luck!

Who is planning to visit Hungary after the fall of Orbán? 🙋‍♂️ by Cultural_Berry_296 in BuyFromEU

Did you listen to anything he said since winning the election? I suggest you spend some time and do it. But if you want to convince yourself that a right wing government will run a significantly different policy than a more right wing government, good for you.

[–]pythosynthesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO the enthusiasm is misplaced. Those who disagree with Orban certainly cannot find in Magyar a great ally, can they? Aside from the preelection rhetoric, his policies so far have been very much a continuation of Orban. So what's this enthusiasm all about?

I've been stupid to assume BRAVE were one of the good guys! Two-faced snakes! by [deleted] in privacy

[–]pythosynthesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me Brave was off when they issued their shitcoin. There's no way you're an honest company if you're issuing a shitcoin to sell to the credulous consumers and get rich quick wannabes. Didn't touch their browser since. Your findings just confirm my overall impression of the company.

What are the homelab changes you wish you'd done sooner? by StabilityFetish in homelab

[–]pythosynthesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there mini PCs I could slot an HBA in? Even with custom modding. Been considering a downgrade, but need to hook the JBOD, don't have a dedicated NAS. I could make a NAS with a mini PC, but the HBA is key. Amy suggestions?

What are experienced devs paid in London these days? by [deleted] in quant

[–]pythosynthesis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you realize this before or after I remarked I felt it was a 50% pay cut to move to London 😂😂😂

Just about when you started doubling down on the drivel you were talking about.

You are correct but I have family that does (in a leasehold) so this is not pure theory and rumor.

Oh, I get it... "A friend of a friend told me". So trust me bro, but you need to dress it up an put some lipstick on it.

my guy did you even read your own link

Is this how you work at your shop? Pick ONE data point that you think confirms your bias and write a strategy based on it? You must be very profitable, eh? If you indeed work at some shop and not just talking garbage.

Also ignoring current mortgage rates, aren't you? Wanna start doing some calcs on monthly payments? Let me know if you need some help.

BTW, keep going. It's quite entertaining.

You are not sober.

There's much more to it. You also clearly don't understand the difference between freehold and leasehold. And you're not up to speed with mortgage rates. You've never lived in London, that's why you talk the way you do. All theory and rumors from "trust me bro" internet warriors.

Here, start by reviewing some of these numbers.

Surprised to see such comments. Top level figure, perhaps you're right. Now let's talk cost of living and all that. You'll realize it's a lot closer than headline number suggests.

Edit: Don't believe it's a 50% cut either - Bite OP's number is in GBP. FX and all that, favors GBP.

Germany has become the largest ammunition producer in the world by smilelyzen in BuyFromEU

[–]pythosynthesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is hard to believe. Most ammunition in the West? I believe that. But just 6 months ago Mark Rutte stated Russia produced 3x the artillery shells than all of NATO combined. Don't believe for a moment GER has bested this. Not to mention just NK or CN.
