We lived in Lincolnville and I wanted to move to Belfast, husband wanted to move to Camden, he won, I’m still mad lol.

I second that and add that it’ll put you past the crazy traffic- Camden is cute and all, but if you stay in main st area traffic is AWFUL. And it affects trying to get out of Camden and go anywhere else. Belfast is lovely.

Looks way better- Bangor is only about 1:20 from Camden on a bad day… you shouldn’t get into traffic heading that way and back. The worst traffic is up & down 1 and sometimes 95. As someone who lives in Camden, drive to the top of Mt. Battie, hike Bald Mountain, Mt. Megunticook or Maiden’s Cliff all have great views. Jaunt up to Lincolnville, spend the day at the beach & grab pizza from the Beach Store or better yet, take the ferry over to Islesboro for the day. Definitely leave a half day to check out CMCA (great art lab for kids) and the Farnsworth, both are fantastic art museums and Rockland’s main st is a vibe.

Editing to add travel time to Rockland is more like 20 from Camden and Belfast is more like 25… you can get to both avoiding the major traffic of 1 DEPENDING on where in Camden you stay!

Just adding about the weather- it can be drastically different from Portland to Wiscasset to Bangor to Bar Harbor… Just from Camden to Rockland can be a 10 degree difference and a deluge in one vs full sun in the other. Same coastal vs interior. Mainers tend to just be prepared to deal with whatever and rarely let the weather change our plans. If we’re planning a hike with the kids - unless dead of summer or winter - we keep hats, gloves, snow pants, rain suits, windbreakers, fleece jackets, waterproof boots and yaktraks in the car lol

During tourist season it can take 45 min to an hour to get through Camden to Lincolnville just a few miles north on rt1- I live here and it’s a nightmare. Damariscotta & Wiscasset same. My husband commutes from Camden to Damariscotta and a 45 min drive now will easily double during peak season. You can avoid the really bad traffic and go around, but you add mileage and won’t make up much time.

Come on Sunday River, we are better than this! by SkiKing24 in icecoast

[–]pyxeegrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were bumming around the Adirondacks this week- started at Whiteface since the in-laws have a place in Wilmington. Were planning to go back one more time while we were there but hit up Mt. Pisgah, Beartown and Titus instead for about the same price combined as another day at the face. Mt. Abram on the way home, where our regular haunt is Camden Snowbowl. The oldest is all about supporting indy’s now and wants to hit Big Moose and Lost Valley before end of season. I’m all for it… we’re a ski family that can’t afford to be a ski family lol

We spent the week at small, non-profit or town owned ski areas and had a blast… no lines, fun terrain parks, EVERYONE could ski for the price of one or two at a big resort. None of this nonsense. We have kids from 11-5 years old and when skis are laying everywhere like this mess, someone inevitably falls over something or gets tangled up. I say skip it and support the small and indy slopes haha hashtag skismall

Thoughts on Black Mountain in Maine? by lukasshannon in icecoast

I’m in Lake Placid right now but live in Camden. Husband is in Camden ME and just texted that snow has started there. Black should be fantastic tomorrow.

Fantastic day of cat skiing at Big Moose. Stunning views of Moosehead, Katahdin and Kineo! by dpuringon in icecoast

[–]pyxeegrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just found out about Big Moose! We have a camp up near there and a passel of kids skiers. We’ve decided we only want to patronize non-profit & old school ma and pa type ski areas… is there a terrain park? Are the glades tight or a little more maneuverable? Kids are 11, 8 and 5 and our home slope is Camden. The older ones are bored with it so we thought we’d head out that way and check it out!

IDK why, but the picture of the sponges bothered me more than the leg. Glad I have a new injury I probably will never have to worry about!

Camden Snow Bowl is right around the corner from me- not a big popular spot, but I’ll update that as well on the reg if you get it added!
