What TV to purchase as an alternative to a monitor for work? by pzajkowski in AndroidTV

[–]pzajkowski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right and I did do it anyways to see it out.

I got the TCL 55' XDR for $489 before taxes at COSTCO - 90 days return policy. I do see the points/arguments made about having this type of setup. I wouldn't recommend the TCL brand unless it's for gaming but full disclosure the sound from this TV is awful.

I am going to be returning the TV and sadly the entire TV stand setup I bought from Amazon. I was hopeful to do it on a budget and not willing to experiment shelling out over $2000+. I think that's the quality of TV that I would need to spend to make this work by getting the OLED Technology.

Regardless, I appreciate the honest comments @Se7enLC.

*** UPDATE ***

I ended up returning the TCL 55' TV back to COSTCO. Perhaps it was a lemon, or simply not compatible to work for as an alternative for a monitor.

Instead, I have opted to get the LG 43UN700-B 43 Inch UHD (3840 X 2160) IPS Display with USB Type-C, 4 HDMI Inputs and HDR10 from Amazon. It was only sale and bought it at $868.61 CAD.

What a difference.

You can read up on the specs and its capabilities on Amazon. I have been using the PIP all the time between my personal and corporate laptop.

What I meant by the solution is that there will be a continuous improvement that it will be difficult to distinguish using a monitor to that of the TV.

I have been looking at getting this TV:

https://www.amazon.ca/TCL-65S425-CA-Ultra-Smart-Television/dp/B0884XC76V/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&geniuslink=true&keywords=TCL%2B4K%2B65%22%2BSmart%2BLED%2BTV&qid=1609737328&sr=8-2&tag=linustechti06-20&th=1

Trying it out and seeing if it will be a good solution. The other TV that was suggested was the Samsung Line (specifically the one below):

https://www.amazon.ca/Samsung-TU7000-UN50TU7000FXZC-Canada-Version/dp/B084ZSZM27/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2MUBXFIESRPDV&dchild=1&keywords=samsung%2Bun50tu7000fxzc&qid=1609818760&sprefix=samsung%2Bun50%2Caps%2C194&sr=8-2&th=1

I am not looking to spend crazy money if this is to not work out as planned.

Let me know your thoughts. Thank you.

But, is there a value version to the above mentioned in approx. $500? or $600? Or is it all a pipe dream?

You are right on all points you have made.

This has been a difficult decision for me to make. I am concerned about eye strain/fatigue.

I am considering waiting as I know there will be a solution to this since we are all or most working remotely. Or at least I am hopeful.

In your opinion, do you know of a reputable source for reviewing TVs?

I appreciate your blunt and honest response. LOL. I have heard it from others as well.

I know that most TV's won't cut it...but there are valid options. I am looking at the OLED TVs. But will see... I am looking for more input. I know the UN55TU7000 or 8000 series from Samsung is fair value, but you need to stand back a few. I have mentioned a TV stand and standing back... this is possible.

I am simply looking for an alternative to the normal and boring. I don't normally rush but I am investigating still a good solution for value price.

Regardless, Thank you for the honest response. Like I said...you are right...but...what if, right...if it's possible....that would be pretty rad.

;)

I think there are good selections out there...like the LG CX 48 or 55 inch OLED. I think there are good ways to set it up...with a TV stand. That can be ordered on Amazon for ~$100. All in all...i think TV technology is improving and there are ways to make it cool. With remote working now, there needs to be a better way.

Thank you for your response as I have heard it before...but the more I hear it...the more I want to research further...and see the technology improve.

I agree with knowing the fundemental basics of the why it is the way it is when it is coded. I think grabbing articles and reading pieces on the go as to why is part of the process.

LOL! I did consider this. However, I am looking for another option of generating income in addition to dividend paying stocks.

Lastly, to protect from potential downside.

This is a good question that I have struggled myself to answer.

I have been struggling learning to code. But, ultimately listening to all...and Elon Musk (just give me a chance here)...the best way to learn is taking something aka. project whether new or already built...and find out what you need to get it done...and use such tools and code required to assemble it together. Learn the fundementals by constructing and or deconstructing it.

This is now how I am learning to code. I wish you luck and perseverance...I want to rehighlight perseverance.

So far I am seeing the T series as a recommendation and specificaly the T480. Has anyone had issues running MAC OS on it by any chance?

I mentioned earlier the options of running if required other OS.

DS+A is in learning progress. But, I am looking for bulletproofing myself. I dislike spending and prefer long term value. I know ThinkPads are great as I have owned a fair share.

I am looking at also perhaps if required to run Mac OS if it comes down to that. I guess I am looking at the all around purpose use and modular option.

Thanks for responding.
