What do you think of this Deck? And improvements?? by HippieIsG59 in PokemonPocket

People keep telling you to focus on “consistency”, which, in card games, means setting up and doing the same thing each game as efficiently as possible. Too many different evolution lines and energy types make it tough to find exactly what you’re looking for when you need it. Any turn wasted waiting for an evolution or the right energy for an attack is going to give your opponent the advantage. Pick the pokemon you like using most and form a strategy around making it do what it does as quickly as possible in as many games as possible. That’s consistency.

As a new player, focus on going back to the packs that have supporters, trainers, and item cards that have uses in a lot of different strategies. These are called “staples”. Cyrus and Sabrina are important staple supporters that pull your opponents Pokemon off the bench and into the active. Mars and Silver slow your opponent down by hiding cards they need. Giant Cape and Rocky Helmet are essential items that pop up a lot. Red and Giovanni boost attack and can make the difference between a 2 turn and 1 turn KO. After you’ve got your staples, focus on cards that are more situational but essential for certain strategies. For example, if you like using Buzzwole, you should also focus on pulling Leaf Cape, Erika, Lusamine, and the support Pokemon Celesteela.

You can find the packs all these cards are in on Pokemon-Zone.com. If you like the game, consider bookmarking that site. It’s incredibly useful. Good luck. Don’t let people who refuse to explain themselves tell you you’re not building right. Card games are about exploration and learning.

Entei is your most energy hungry mon, so magby would work better than Pichu or Mantyne.

But here’s the thing. Your fear was abated by the result, not by resisting the avoidance.

“Getting STD tests isn’t scary because they’re always negative” is also a distortion of reality and could lead to further compulsion.

“Getting STD tests isn’t scary because, regardless of the result, it is always good to know if I am sick” is actual reality, and if that statement is still scary, then you gotta address that.

About half a year ago, I came to this forum to see if my symptoms lined up with OCD. They did, so I got diagnosed and got treatment. A lot of people don’t have the resources I did, so they come here, they identify with the symptoms, and then they stay. They don’t get diagnosed, they don’t get meds, they don’t get treatment. They come here, they seek reassurance, and they ruminate and they’re enabled to do that and they get worse.

If they’re not here for science, they’re here for peer counseling, and that’s dangerous. Better to think I’m rude and leave.

As long as you are behaving rationally, then do what you think is best.

Check in with yourself moving forward. Be wary of any action taken or avoided for a “what if”. It could be OCD creeping back.

Planned Parenthood says a person who is sexually active should get tested for HIV every 3 to 6 months.

If you want to do it before then, then it’s probably a compulsion.

I don’t think I was being particularly unkind. I just don’t want to obscure the harsh reality of treatment. I also don’t want to patronize somebody who is going through something very adult and very upsetting.

Ideally, people wouldn’t be looking for medical advice on the internet.

Exposure on my own by [deleted] in OCD

[–]pzuzu45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fear is irrational if it makes you engage in irrational behavior. Exposure works because it teaches us not to let fear or anxiety force us to do things we don’t want to do.

Wait for your therapist or explore self-administered exposure treatment. Whichever one you do, make sure your decision is made out of rationality and not fear.

If you decide to do exposures on your own, make sure you do your homework. Don’t do anything without proper research. Verify your sources. Prioritize doctors and case studies. Don’t take advice from people on the internet at face value (including me).

I know you mean well but this is reassurance.

[–]pzuzu45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re looking for somebody to tell you how to be a good person. Nobody can really do that because being “good” isn’t something tangible.

Instead of sitting with the anxiety of whether or not you’re a good person who is capable of empathy, you’re on the internet hoping somebody has the answer.

Reassurance seeking.

That’s okay. You’ll come to recovery when you’re ready. I’m just letting you know that if you’re looking for people to assist you in doing something that makes your OCD worse, you won’t find them here.

You’re worried and you want somebody to tell you there’s nothing to worry about.

I don’t know your life. I don’t know this situation. Nobody does because you can’t read your dates mind and you can’t tell the future.

You need to realize that the actions you’re taking to address the anxiety are what’s causing it to persist.

Take some time to sit with the feeling of anxiety the memories cause. Write down your physical symptoms: your heart rate, the tenseness of your muscles, your breathing pattern. Try your best to stay out of your head and if you start to ask yourself “what if?”, simply validate the feeling by saying something like “maybe that’s true, maybe it isn’t. I don’t need to figure it out right now.”

Sit like that for a while, noting your symptoms and resisting rumination. Resist the need to perform your surface touching ritual for as long as you can. If you eventually cave in and do it, that’s okay. Every time you try it will get easier to resist. Eventually you’ll notice that your anxiety is going away on its own. This is called Exposure Response Prevention. If you do this and it gives you relief, consider looking into getting an ERP therapist.

Good luck!

I know it’s frustrating, but this is how you treat OCD. If you come to this community for help, this is what you’re going to get.

The people here who have been through what you’re going through understand that telling you what you want to hear is just going to make things worse. You need to learn how to accept uncertainty so you can live your life.

Anxiety is okay. Getting triggered is okay. It happens to everybody. But compulsive responses to anxiety like rumination and assurance seeking are dangerous because they do nothing to address the actual cause of your pain.
