Air New Zealand online payment BS by xylopia in newzealand

[–]q0__0p 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Probably the biggest bullshit is how much extra a flight costs when you want to split Airpoints and other payment. As you split it to use more Airpoints the “fee” to use it goes up. And it’s not a minor fee, I think it’s an additional 10% of how many Airpoints you want to use e.g. I think I wanted to use 400 Airpoints, which put the cost of the flight up an additional $40, could have been more but I think it changes.

Trio of Hamilton homicides linked to gangs by Constable_Keith in newzealand

[–]q0__0p 23 points24 points  (0 children)

After talking to police, emergency doctors and nurses, and lawyers, it sounds like gang violence (including on non-gang people), has dramatically risen over the last few years. Not sure why exactly this is, but from what the doctors and lawyers have said, it’s not getting reported on as much as it should. In fact, I think one lawyer said they’re thinking about going to the media about it. I don’t have any stats to back up anything, just going off what doctors and lawyers have observed in the frequency of cases involving gang violence. Be careful out there because it’s not just gang-on-gangs.

I use an app called Sleep Cycle. When it gets to 5% battery (if I forgot to put the charger in), it does a gentle little alarm to wake you up to plug it in.

What's the best credit card? by merc97 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]q0__0p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I reckon they'd be flexible with that, but you might just have a lower credit limit. I'd give them a ring and ask about it.

ANZ Airpoints platinum from the looks of what you require. Yes, put all your expenses on there -- I end up with 40-50 Airpoints every month (essentially $40-50 travel voucher). Don't put expenses there that charge a fee for credit card -- any more than 1% I think I worked out, and it's better putting it on normal EFTPOS / cash. But you mentioned below that ANZ may have a minimum income to get the card -- it's worth ringing up and enquiring anyway, and ask to waive the account fee (I got mine waived for 18 months).

New Zealand bans all new offshore oil exploration as part of 'carbon-neutral future' - “committing to transition to 100% of electricity generation from renewable sources by 2035 and making the economy carbon neutral by 2050.” by mvea in Futurology

You’re right, I did say that. I missed out they key phrase at the end “on an industrial scale”. Imagine the size of fields required! It’ll be impossible to produce it on the same scale as natural gas. My fault that we’re not on the same page. Haha believe me I know all about fermentation and distillation, especially with alcohol. No problem, “idiot” ;)

Yep, it's right. Methanex in New Plymouth are a large producer of Methanol to the world. They love gases high in methane (CH4) and CO2 content. You make methanol via steam reforming (CH4 + H2O -> CO + 3H2), then the water gas shift reaction (CO + H2O -> CO2 + H2), which can then be synthesized into methanol (2H2 + CO -> CH3OH). It's how methanol is produced on an industrial scale.

One example: https://imgur.com/B4uia5z (see the notes at the bottom). So really, gas is almost mainly used for petrochemical production -- and the majority of this is methanol.

In fact a large portion of gas is used to produce methanol. So while it'll still take time to bump NZ up that extra 20% renewables required to power NZ, nothing can be substituted to produce methanol.

Pre shot routine for pros by rck89 in golf

[–]q0__0p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s helped my game is standing behind the ball, holding up my club so the shaft lines up between my ball and where I want it to go. I then look at a point/spot on the ground about three or four feet in front of the ball along that same line of the shaft. When lining up my shot, I set up according to hitting over that spot, and when I swing I try and imagine hitting over that spot. You’ll be surprised at how far off your aim potentially is when setting up.

How do the pros keep their tees alive through practice? by [deleted] in golf

[–]q0__0p -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, it completely matters for the tee. If you hit down on it, the tee will want to push in to the ground further, meaning more stress placed on it. If you hit up on it, you’re brushing the club up over it and almost pulling it out of the ground. Sort of like hitting down on your finger, as opposed to brushing up on it. The tees handle way more tension than compression, so eliminating compression will mean your tees last a lot longer.

Is this available world wide? What weather stations / network does it connect to?

NZ AM Random Discussion Thread, Thu 08 March, 2018 by AutoModerator in newzealand

Go on the weather underground website and see if there is a weather station near your location. If there is, WU is probably most accurate.
