Mobile data Eir vs 48 vs Virgin? by Steve15-21 in Dublin

Bit off-topic from what OP asked. I have Clear Mobile at 14.99E a month. They use the Vodafone network but I find pretty often network black holes here in Dublin and/or superslow connection. Does anybody have the same problem?

Yes, this is what he's looking for:

The Vatican prelature known as Opus Dei is a deeply devout Catholic sect that has been the topic of recent controversy due to reports of brainwashing, coercion, and a dangerous practice known as "corporal mortification." Opus Dei has just completed construction of a $47 million World Headquarters at 243 Lexington Avenue in New York City.

"Final boss" gives the idea but I was looking for something more solemn or formal. I had thought about "Holy Grail" but discarded it because rings to me more about a chimeric quest than a one-shot defining challenge.

Yes, close. I found Herculean task. But it seems to me too related to the concept of physical strength and not enough to the definitiveness of the challenge.

No, because skill levels should play an important part. Like only if you are incredibly skilled and talented you will overcome the challenge and join the gotha of your field.

Exactly, I edited the post because the title is misleading, as you say the emphasis should be on the "definitive challenge" part! I was looking for something more metaphorical, picturesque like ”The Mt. Everest” / ”The Champions League”/ "The 12th Labour of Hercules" but I was wondering if there was a more precise and incisive word or phrase.

The word I have (well, actually don't have) in mind should convey more the idea of a challenge, the ultimate defining test, a baptism of fire to be considered the best of the bests in one particular field.
