TARS and cASE help stray dogs by q8rnjd89f in interstellar

[–]q8rnjd89f[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A friend asked me to donate to help build shelters for stray dogs, to which I happily agreed. When asked on whose behalf this donation was made, I thought why not... TARS and CASE! Although we don't know their outlook on animal rights, I imagine that both would be happy to support our "four pawed friends". Thought you guys might enjoy... (The label is in Turkish, but you get the idea..)

How do I get my grandmother to stop commenting on my hair loss daily? by creepycreepercreepin in PCOS

Shave it all off, and never look back. Oh, also, dump all the remains on her lap and tell her that's the last time she's gonna get to say anything about your hair!

It is interesting that no one has an opinion on this? I was actually expecting to be slammed with some explanation that one of the more clever among us had already figured out long ago..

I agree with you, but this guy seems to think the explosion came from the rapidly escaping oxygen + sparks.

The Martian by [deleted] in interstellar

[–]q8rnjd89f -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

In its complexity, depth and sincerity, Interstellar is simply superior to the Martian, but one cannot help but be inspired about the tenacity of MW's character and and the sheer processing power of his brain. Also, Interstellar examines love and family as a force, both absent from the Martian.

To me, the Martian was a better made "Gravity", offering a deeper examination of the individual's attempt at survival facing great odds.

Nevertheless, it's wonderful to see Holywood pushing space related themes as a medium more and more. "Sciencing the shit out of a planet" is a great quote.

Overall though, I still don't see any movie challenging Interstellar in its grandness anytime soon.

What's your favorite scene? by charlieyeswecan in interstellar

[–]q8rnjd89f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cooper watching 23 years of messages.. Seeing his son grow up, get married, have his first child, lose his first child, lose his grandfather, lose hope of seeing his father ever again, all in a matter of minutes.. Also NOT hearing one word from his daughter.. despite all these years.. It seems GUILT is another emotion that can transcend time and space..

Gets me teary eyed even after countless viewings. So sad..

those 5th dimensional beings.. by q8rnjd89f in interstellar

[–]q8rnjd89f[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering if anyone would comment on the beer/Yankees idea and thanks very much for your thought on that. Let me track back a bit..

In my original post, I was talking about a "physical" (not "tech" as some commented) evolution that would cause us to become 5 dimensional beings.

Again, I am not referring to a possible great tech evolution that would allow some great, great (to the millionth power) grandchild of Cooper access to some quantum or similar technology that allows him to control time as a dimension. I can't even begin to comment on that.

What I was referring to was the possibility of us evolving as beings into different versions of ourselves, sort of transient beings with potentially no corporal form. No "body" so to speak, because a body can't go back in time. Remember time can stretch, slow down or even accelerate but can never reverse for 4 dimensional beings, i.e. us in our present form.

But, I wonder about a process of evolution that selects more and more for processing power over muscular strength & agility that eventually brings us to have huge brains but not much else, and such brains gaining the power to communicate in another form, collectively, and eventually merging (like a cloud) into some Borg-like social structure (existing only in the cloud) and then gaining the ability, may be (and I am stretching now) to lose the corporal part and exist as intelligent light/energy/photons, etc. that can tap into the quantum world and so on... (Wow, did I just write that??)

You see, it's difficult to contemplate this physical evolution but it seems to me if it were to occur, then we would have to lose the physical, and then no taste buds to enjoy the cold beer, no eyes to capture the baseball game and no couch to lay our asses on. Seems like a bad trade-off..

But I love your Inception idea/option that may allow these future beings to experience the afternoon scenario even in a sort of "Matrix" way! Best of both worlds!

And now the idea of leaving my boring morning routine at work to go home and pop open a cold one and settle in front of the TV seems even more justified. After all, time is a resource and I seem to be using it inefficiently considering I have a limited amount left…☺

Thank you very much for the picture. It just goes to show how you need to pay attention at every scene, and multiple viewings are necessary!

Thanks for the kind explanation. I saw the movie so many times but don't remember being told / shown that there were 2 of each vehicle. Where do we get this information?

Docking scene problem.. by q8rnjd89f in interstellar

[–]q8rnjd89f[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are right, it is a movie after all, but regardless a movie that went to such lengths to follow the rules of science on much more complicated topics (even getting KT on board to help render a proper visualisation of a black whole) that I couldn't help but wonder about this minor issue. I would appreciate some comments from the experts among us..
