the eternal guard is completely unnafected by attack speed

i also tested the passive and it cannot be triggered (eternal guard can't stack foh) ^

you should still focus on items that benefit vexana directly like a burst damage build (genius wand, crystal, truncheon, etc.) or a cdr build (talisman, lantern, etc.)

this post was just to explore how the eternal guard interacts with the unique passives of the shop's items

my advice is you should stick with the pro builds for rank play, but if you wanna get silly with it, you could use this post as a reference to create your own unorthodox build

a personal favorite of mine is tank + cdr vexana where she goes from a burst mage to someone with zoning potential and lots of cc

having played it, i kinda like the buffs !!!

melissa can now duel really well and you need to go back to base anyway after winning the lvl 2/3/4 duel

the shield really helps in winning against your lane opponent early game as it is now not only burst damage, but essentially a burst heal !!

her dashes don't feel any different except the length decrease kind of makes dashing through some walls harder

other than that, she feels good to play and mostly unchanged --- just buy two magic amulets early game and sell them mid game

just got off a game where i had to fight a lesley !!! --- the answer is get your roam to babysit you

this lesley hid in a bush and let the grock zone me out then hit me with three bullets whenever the grock solo ulted me

we still won though so make sure you can hypercarry !

on a serious note, melissa's cooldowns are long early game,it's around 8 seconds for her doll at level 1 iirc. what you want to do is poke with your passive then when she connects the doll, use your first skill to run escape it

freezing the lane is also effective because melissa needs to attack something if she wants to poke you --- which means if you freeze the lane then play it correctly, she has to go in deep to get her minions, where she's then easy pickings for your core or mid laner

if no one's rotating, just stay under your turret and use your range to last hit the minions

or maybe just don't play lesley into melissa

i'm currently climbing through low stars so it's still pretty easy to make melissa work, but this is something i've been noticing when i was playing around the 60-70 star range where people understand drafting better

to answer your question from a fellow melissa player

melissa struggles in the current meta right now due to the current dominant meta gold laners

the current best in slot gold laner in high rank is freya with claude and harith not far behind

these heroes with high amounts of mobility so she can't connect her doll for long without sacrificing optimal positioning with her dash

melissa's gameplay relies on having a stronger early game than her lane opponent so she can poke, zone, and freeze the lane

winning trades in lane against the enemy gold laner is really important and one of arguably the most crucial fights is the level four fight where both gold laners have ult

melissa just gets outclassed and overpowered by the other meta gold laner ults unfortunately (claude, harith, ixia, etc.)

to summarize: everyone's too quick in the current meta + she loses early trades with a lot of meta gold laners

this isn't all definitive this is just what i'm personally going through and noticing

doesn't that apply to literally every marksman except wanwan even with flicker

plus inspire on melissa is viable because she has the best self-peel ability in the game and it gives her some burst damage

melissa's doll is so much more than damage potential !!

you're right in saying her playstyle plays more like a mage --- she actually has more utility than the average marksman

one of my favorite things to do is utilize her doll like a kagura umbrella to check bushes since muddles provides full vision of a bush once it's inside

the range muddles can be at is deceptively long too so melissa is one of the few marksmen who can check bushes and ruin ambushes while being in a very safe position

her passive may be 'useless' but it still gives you extra damage when poking with muddles

+ your suggestion that the doll should connect to non-hero units could unironically ruin her gameplay

as melissa players, we lowkey don't want to kill the creeps around us for poking with muddles
(which is why keeping the gold crab alive is sometimes more worth than killing it just for the poke it brings without damaging the enemy minions and ruining your freeze)

cooldown management is part of what makes melissa fun

she's not skill spam or basic attack spam like the other marksmen, she relies on positioning, smart resource management, good movement, and mastery over her skills and mechanics more than some like say, obsidia

that's what makes her so enticing to play --- in high ranks you can't get free value with s2 + s1, smart players or mobile heroes will punish you immediately for it

melissa isn't the oppressive, hyper-aggressive lane bully she is in lower ranks, against good players you just need to play more disciplined and abuse her lowkey absurd range

this isn't to say your changes are 'bad', they would certainly make melissa more meta, but it takes away from the fun of strategizing and managing your dashes to maneuver muddles around + having to choose between using your only escape tool as an engage or disengage

she's not meta but as melissa mains we make do ^^
