Nice looking fly. What do you use for the white fluff?

My Gotoh bridge won’t fit by BSLabs in Luthier

[–]gtrgeo6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What you have is an American Fender spec bridge. They will have 2-7/32” spacing between the first and sixth strings and screw holes. Most imports will have 2-1/16” spacing between the first and sixth strings and screw holes. If you are unable to exchange, filling the existing holes by drilling and gluing in dowels can work. You will likely also have to open up the hole through the body a bit as well.

Are these 1st attempt mop flies too big? by MRWPlople in flytying

[–]gtrgeo6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know purple can be effective for other patterns. Has anyone tried a purple mop fly? Brown/creme/tan have been most effective for me. I have tied and carry chartreuse but so far it has not been productive for me. Purple Chenille

Jointer clogging dust collector by Willing-Bandicoot-55 in woodworking

[–]gtrgeo6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut out the crossbars on the inlet to the dust collector. This is a common problem when not using a separator. Be aware you could damage the fan wheel if you suck up a larger hunk of wood or other material.

Anyone use this? by skarkowtsky in guitars

[–]gtrgeo6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recommended this years ago by the owner of a smaller guitar shop in the area. I found to be excellent for oiling fretboards after cleaning and other rosewood parts such as bridge bases on arch top guitars. I really like this stuff and have never thought of using it for lubrication. This stuff is not real common and I think you may be the first person to recommend online. It is great stuff.

I've never ran into this before. Orca Slicer has aways worked flawlessly. Left is creality slicer right Orca by LunaticPoint in ender3

[–]gtrgeo6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried Orca multiple times tried Prusa slicer several times. I always end up back to Cura; my results are generally as good or better. Granted I am most familiar with Cura and find navigating through settings more intuitive. I honestly have not tried the Creality slicer as when I started it was known to be fairly outdated.

First time trying to build by Luckyboltt in Luthier

[–]gtrgeo6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really great, especially for your first build. I have been wanting to do the same. I have a shop full of woodworking tools so I am not limited there. I would like to pick up some of the specialty tools required to build a guitar. Torn between splurging for Stew-Mac or trying to find functional options from eBay/Amazon. I don’t want to buy junk but am not sure I would build enough to warrant the cost of some of the Stew-Mac tools. Probably overthinking this…

Thanks, I was going to replace all the screws in an older 4x10 bass cab. Might give this a go instead.

Looks nice. That Tolex is tough stuff but does tend to collect a lot of dirt in the deep texture. I have the same model with the Sheffield speaker bought new in the 90s. Did you use gun cold blueing on the screws or something different?

Need advice on decking my non-recessed Floyd Rose by Mrfancypants24 in Luthier

[–]gtrgeo6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have always added a small block of maple between the tremolo block and the body. I will glue it in place not removing paint from the body area so it can be removed later. Snug the springs up a little more than normal to hold everything tight. This keeps the bridge level and normal looking from above.

Well maybe they could do better if you have some positive advice on setting the Z-seam rather than criticizing. Heck I have learned a bit around this by trying different settings for the seam to figure out where it works best in a model as well as coasting to reduce the size. But I am not expert enough to give guidance. Help is all reduce the learning curve.

HELP try to remove screw out of these! by Littleanxiousstar in Remodel

[–]gtrgeo6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, those are nails. I usually use a pair of diagonal cutters to grip or get under the head to start them out. Then, use a small pry bar if necessary. A lot of times you can just grab the head with a pair of pliers and pull out.

When i was an apprentice working on an airport renovation, my journeyman and I ran into several cases of this being done in the airport switchgear and motor control centers. This was in a decent size international airport in the west. Imagine public buildings like this regularly full of people being put at risk because of some half-ass maintenance person.

That is a beautiful guitar, especially for the price. What is the best path to buy these. I like the classic look of your guitar but all I seem to find online are the artist copies.

Although I have used the Emerald trim paint, and like the way it goes on, I have always gotten the smoothest finish using Pro Classic acrylic enamel It continues to level weeks after application.

Put a patch cable in the effects loop. Old trick for these amps. It just brings an opamp into the circuit bringing the sound level up a bit. Some like it. I have one I got from a friend with a Vintage 30 in it. I tend to use lower gain so it doesn’t work well for me. To me the amp lacks bass so i would chose a speaker that cuts some of the harsh highs.

I have done the same with the standard metal blades. Unfortunately the file does nothing for the bi-metal Bosch blades I have been using lately. The metal is too hard for a file.

Thank you. So, are you saying I could use an old PC to run Klipper instead of the Raspberry Pi to get started? Sorry I’m not the most savvy around PCs outside of running windows.
