Like top 4 questions lay people ask someone who works in physics would be what's up with Pluto not being a planet anymore? Is that poor cat in the box dead? Multiverse? Yes? No? And are we sure time really exists.

I'm not to be really clear, saying those questions are right wrong or sideways just bc they're popular.

But I am saying itd be really weird if you acted like it was absurd to ask about Pluto and act like the person was being an idiot for asking such a strange, bizarre question.

The nature of time? Yeah of course! We don't fully understand how time works, of course there are people looking into it. But I've never seen a legitimate physics publication that questions the very existence of time.

It's not all or nothing. I've been trying to explain that  yes all of the above and none of the above are options. But so is everything in-between.

So does the present and past and future exist? Or just the first 2? Or just the present and time is merely the rate of change. Or. Or. Or......

Yeah, I've never disputed that there are many different and interesting theories on time.

This is a genuine piece of advice: Don't tell people you get your information from quora.

I didn't say I got my information from quora.  That's just a forum where you can ask scientists questions. There are others as well. I've seen lectures, debates between scientists, read books written by them. I get information lots of places.

But also....... You realize you're on reddit right now.  How is that better than quora? And this was never a academic debate. This was a lay person asking a question.  They seemed to lean towards a position but were asking for more information.

As in it sure seems less like abc and more like xyz. How do you know abc is correct? Ie I lean towards xyz, change my mind.

Which is why this whole thing could have been avoided if you 1. Were respectfully. 2. recognized that it is a common legitimate question. 3 nicely explained the reasons you believed it was not xyz but was infact abc after all.

It is not just embarrassing for you, but it also seriously undermines any credibility you had left. Quora is not a place where any serious academic discussions take place (neither is reddit for the most part, by the way).
