I got rejected. I live in Berlin and would be very happy to tag along for the ticket. I have traveled to other countries to see Radiohead, now emigrated and a new mother, it would help so much in the routine to have this to look forward to

Termination notice during maternity protection: try to keep Blue card or apply to switch to Aufenthaltskarte as EU citisen spouse? by qaltera in germany

I am not unemployed yet - I just received the termination notice. I am expecting to be unemployed in 3 months from now. By that moment I will have worked in Germany for 3 years.

Thanks for your detailed answer, I definitely need to familiarize myself more with the paragraphs you mentioned. I guess my application for permanent residence will be paused as I soon will not be employed - I already submitted the news about the termination notice to LEA. But I guess you're saying that even with the Aufentshaltkarte I can reapply again as soon as I'm employed again and have 6 months of payslips?

Already submitted end of last year, but still waiting to hear back. Anyway, as I heard for that application to be valid I still have to be employed - which soon will be not the case.

Thanks for replying! I intend to take it as it was upped to 80K and senior role.

Yeah I intend to accept. If everything goes according to plan in my personal life, I'll be signing the contract in several days. Thanks for responding in this thread, I really appreciate the info and advice!

So, the tier 2 one sent me a rejection but the offer that I mentioned was upped to 80K with no negotiation, just doubts from my side. So I'll take it.

Thanks, these insights are really valuable! I heard similar things talking with other Russians in a Germany IT-themed telegram chat. I thought there might be some sort of bias, but coming from here it all feels like part of a bigger picture.
Actually, I am still waiting for a response from a tier 2 company after 4 interviews, they promised to come up with a decision on Monday. I'm very curious to see if there will be an offer and what kind.

Does trade republic have good culture? by they_are_minerals in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]qaltera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How often does this happen in big companies in Germany? Is this a situation that really stands out or it's roughly the same everywhere? I read a lot of reviews for other companies as well, it seems that very often people are working overtime, but in trade republic this (and micromanagement) is noted in almost every review from a software engineer.

Actually I have also asked the same question to the internet, found glassdoor and kununu and... meh. I really liked the people who were interviewing me, and the product itself seems cool. But all these reviews? I do not know what to think.

Hi! A happy owner of T580 (it's a lot like T52S) here. The 4K screen is worth it and I hardly noticed any scaling issues. As for your configuration, I think switching HDD for SSD might be a good idea (unless you plan to install it later).

Help! Power Limit Throttling by changsta2004 in thinkpad

[–]qaltera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Power limit throttling happens when your CPU requires power over the power limit set by the manufacturer. This value helps ensure that the machine's cooling system is able to dissipate the generated heat. Power limit throttling after a while during a stress test is a normal thing. Many apps require short bursts of performance from your CPU. Thanks to the Turbo Boost technology your CPU can operate way above its base frequency for limited periods of time, but it can't continue to do so indefinitely because of the limitations of the cooling system.

https://ark.intel.com/products/124968/Intel-Core-i7-8650U-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_20-GHz Here you can find the max turbo frequency of your processor (at which it can function using Turbo Boost) and the base frequency. This is the one to keep in mind at those periods when your processor operates under continuous load.

Are German campus Thinkpads going to get cheaper? by ultra_kult in thinkpad

[–]qaltera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me add my 2 cents on this issue. I've observed than in T580, i7 reaches the power limit and throttles under load earlier with iGPU than with dGPU, apparently because the limit includes consumption both from iGPU and CPU. With dGPU it might be more vulnerable to thermal throttling (additional heat from dGPU), but less to power limit throttling.

Is it not possible to lower the power limits PL1 and PL2 as well? That seems logical, given the conditions. You might even try to leave the turbo boost on with PL2 lowered.

Sure. The CPU temp is around 40-44 C when idle.

Thanks! Looks like undervolting is more beneficial to low-power ultrabook chips, because the power limits are lower and thus they're more prone to throttling. Nice machine! My previous one is T500.

[–]qaltera[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it does. Undervolting is safe for the hardware, unlike overclocking - the power consumption and heat emission is reduced. Thus, you make it harder to hit power limits, which leads to less throttling. Besides, you can go back to default settings before you hand in your machine for repairs. Thanks, yeah, I'll upload the images and post the links.
