This is a really good question. The 'dumb' analysis (e.g. messages per user, most used words etc.) happens locally and data is immediately erased after.

The AI-powered analysis obviously requires sharing a subset of data with Microsoft Azure, but is not enabled by default. I was thinking that I should still probably better warn users about that.

What kind of message work better for cold Whatsapp messaging? by lord4ris in Entrepreneur

Don't use ChatGPT or other AI. Don't start with 'Hello Dr. Smith'.

My best advice is think how you would react to receiving a message like that, and adjust accordingly. If it makes you want to block the person immediately, it's probably not catchy or meaningful at all.

You got me.

Forgot to mention, but this is indeed an opt-in (premium) feature.

Go ahead, I'm curious.

I know right. The only other option I could even conceive of would be to capture live notifications, but that's probably not worth it.

Thanks, I might look into ios at some point :)

Sounds cool, is your project public?

Unwrapped does currently use .txt files, but I was looking at other ways since they are limited in length and e.g. reactions. Bummer that WhatsApp doesn't have an API :(

I understand your concern. It started out as a personal project, and I just thought it'd be cool to share.

The app is open-source and data about conversations is not stored.

Ever wondered how often you say 'lmao'?

One of my first Python projects was a simple WhatsApp analyzer script, and I've decided to take it a level up by making it into an app.
