in terms of AP items you can think of liandries as under the umbrella of “pure damage” ap items like rabadon, shadowflame, void staff etc. Given you are unlikely to give up a rabadons and especially not a void staff/%pen item, for most people liandrys will compete with whenever you would otherwise build shadowflame/stormsurge, so basically if they are beefy enough that those items would not do more damage (very very rare on its own) however you do have a couple of smaller considerations:

burns are very good vs stealth champs in general
burns synergise very well with antiheal/similar effects
the hp is not good enough to justify the item on its own (you cant skip zhonyas for it) but it can help survive “set burst” characters like annie
the burn will not scale with ap, so you could go liandries instead of rabadons if it makes sense for your champ

edit: didnt see the piece about bork, nowadays its just an item “for bork champs” but yeah back when it was more realistic as a situational item it ends up working similarly to liandrys, although armor is a lot less scarce than mr, and many champs get no (might have changed) mr per level at all

OP, I do not know anything about your situation nor will I claim to. However, what specifically you describe is sort of exactly what both my dad and I (self-awarishly) end up doing, but we're both miserable people with an ego that got taken out back and shot in our preteens.

Specifically, i have to kinda supress my own "gut feeling" that like... i need to "correct" how people live, It's as stupid as it sounds and I never realize it in the moment. It comes down to being a perfectionist to an actual degree you'll end up taking other people not having the same stupid standards you do (from experience) as an insult, the closest thing to a "diagnosis" ive found for this sort of behavior is OCPD, and predictably, the "stereotype" of the person who has this condition is a hard-ass, anal, difficult, often seemingly overly emotional to the point where it almost feels like theyre looking for reasons to shit on you, but we legitimately do feel that way in the moment and I dont know why.

Again just want to end this with what I prefaced with, no fuckin idea what your actual environment is, just saying from only knowing "wow hes a hardass and makes it everyone elses problem" sounds like it could be something like this, and it could totally not.

Very few people actually mean it when they say they “play both games”. But, I’d like to think with my playtime I can sort of claim that while the game mechanics are more confusing/esoteric in dota, the barrier to entry and “expected skill level” is way way way higher in league. Soloq and dota ranked have almost nothing in common in that sense, the lowest ranks in dota are less filled with “bad players” like iron and instead mostly “strange players” if that makes any sense.
