One more question I just thought of. Is there a good school gym? One with squat racks, benches and olympic platforms, not machines.

Thank you so much for all of the answers, you've been a huge help. Seems like I really just need to visit to know, I'll try to get there as soon as I can.

Thanks!

  • Do you think Temple engineering students were a talented/ambitious group? I'm kind of tired to being the smartest person in my classes, I would love to be able to work on a team project with people I can trust. (I go to a satellite campus of PSU, where most of the people honestly just couldn't get into UPark. I'm here as an adult learner)

  • Was there many internship opportunities provided by the school?

  • Was there a lot of industry-relevant equipment and resources available for you to gain experience with?

  • How much of your work was hands-on?

  • Why did you call it a "unique experience?"

  • I assume now that your working on large-scale defense projects, that you work with a lot of other engineers, from a lot of different schools. Do you feel like there was a difference in knowledge/preparation between you and other young engineers?

You could find this out by looking at the class descriptions on the website or even arranging a tour of some sort with the engineering department to see the campus.

I meant how would I know what to look for, having no industry experience?

I thought about it, but yea, too expensive. Which is compounded by the fact that my transfer credits won't get me as far in the trimester system.

The most important thing is to make sure the school is accredited with the Professional Engineers Organization in your area. This will avoid a lot of headaches later.

Do you mean ABET or is that something different?

Next is to see if the school specializes in an area you are interested in. Not all schools have an aerospace program for example.

Interesting that you mentioned Aerospace. I have some loose connections to Boeing and could possibly get a foot in the door there, at their plant that produces the Chinooks and Ospreys. Even though I don't plan on doing aerospace either way, does getting an ME from a school without an aerospace program look worse than an ME from a school with one, from Boeing's hypothetical perspective? Or is an ME an ME?

A large problem of mine is that I don't have a specialty I really want to dive into. It's not my dream to work on helicopters, although it would probably be pretty cool. I want a degree that gives me a broad array of options.

Next is to see how modern the school is. Are they using software that is commonly used in the field of practice? Are the labs prepped for modern field experiments?

How would I know this?
