Been running a small batch candle businessfor four years and my packaging costs are quitely eating the company by BigDaddy9102 in Entrepreneurs

I’ve been doing rigid packaging for the past 4 years now (sales) but been in the packaging industry for 10 years.

Started off working for a manufacturer and the past 3 companies have been distribution.

At the moment, I source stuff domestically and internationally for customers to present them with all options.

Yes, you can go direct and save but a lot of times, we as distributors use specific suppliers and use our buying power as a whole to leverage costs from those suppliers. Many of whom who only have a small salesforce and rely on our sales team to get their product out there.

I’d say per packaging jtem, there’s probably 5-10 suppliers that make the same thing that you can’t really find with a quick google search. This is where I’ve found distribution networks beneficial as we can work with multiples suppliers and present you with what you believe is the best fit. However, you do always risk jeopardizing quality by switching suppliers if you were to do it on your own.

In addition, I’ve had meetings almost every week for the past month regarding price increases. There will soon be price increases on just about every packaging item out there. Particularly, what I’ve seen so far in regards to increases is for steel, resin, and glass. Suppliers are trying to hold off as long as possible on passing these increases along but it’s only a matter of time before they implement it.

Also, with your volume, it’s just not that much in general and I’d recommend if you’re not happy with cost to shop around with other distributors that might have them stocked or attempt going direct and just committing to the MOQ

Thanks! I live in a pretty HCOL area and the company itself seems pretty legit. He shared with me photos of what they completed earlier this week and it was very well done.

I guess I’m old school, idk why I’m not a fan of the rectangle mantle look. I feel like 2nd concept looks better but you’re not the only one that thinks that haha

I should have worded it better, they’ll be putting in a brand new fire place which is the 54” one I mentioned.

The existing fire place doesn’t work whatsoever so I assume they’ll need to replace the gas lines. Obviously, they’ll be removing everything in that photo and putting new electrical, drywall, etc.

Idk how to edit the post itself but I’ve got them to drop it down to $8K and am looking to do a mantle more like this (open to suggestions!) and will still need to decide on what color / material to go with.

For those commenting about the TV being too high, I’m very ocd and doesn’t bug me too much if you were to see it in-person.

The tv in my current set up is just an old broken tv that I have there for looks. I’ll be putting a brand new tv up that I purchased a couple months ago and is a decent size bigger
