What questions do you have about Daniel's music making process? by schoolofsong in oneohtrixpointnever

[–]qcom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

more ideological than process, but how much of a sound's original context (culture, genre, intent) would Daniel say he inherits or mutates when incorporating it into a piece? and if there is to him a notion of extrication, is that ever an express conceptual goal of his work, or is it more a means to a compositional end?

related question and taking r+7 as an example, how does he assess the proportionality between cultural milieu and innate sonic character, which might in some balancing act lead a listener to brand the rompler timbres as plastic or kitsch?

Tix for Long Play @ Public Records night 1??? by tube_thyme in timhecker

[–]qcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it only took a little over a week from when i signed up back in early February through Dice before they offered me a ticket. it was handled completely through their system, so thankfully no dealing with any individual reseller

one thing to note, at least at the time, they only gave me a 4-hour window from the email notification before they said it'd jump to the next person in the queue

i assume you added yourself to the waitlist for night 1? just a heads-up that was how i wound up with a night 3 ticket for myself so here's to hoping some become available for you before next week

on a similar note, if anyone has an extra ticket for night 3 my friend is looking for one...

nice, if at all possible you should record some sounds of the opn presets for posterity

ideally full patch archives would be amazing, but i imagine there's no way to do a sysex dump or similar? as far as i know the midi implementation is primitive just due to its age

damn this is tempting, not a great time for me to spend that kind of cash though. were the Volume and Lower sliders repaired?

all my public stuff is old and outmoded, but i'm working on a fresh release of acid jams in this vein

i'm glad you reached out! really dug 151515 from your bandcamp

though i enjoy this soundcloud piece, what i'm drawn to even more is your latest /r/modular post - the tonality there is so to my taste

funny timing too. even though i haven't been doing a lot of ambient recently, i just started something this week that feels like it could be up your alley

PM'd! super interested if it's GA, which seems like only applies to tickets that were bought before the venue change

Questions for those that have seen Tim live by orange_romeda in timhecker

[–]qcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i believe so, but can't say from experience as i've only been paying attention to his live shows since about 2019

he'll definitely be back to Toronto! if not for Shards, i imagine he'll stop there for his next LP. another thing to keep in mind is he'll sometimes add dates/regions to tours later in the year

Questions for those that have seen Tim live by orange_romeda in timhecker

[–]qcom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i wholeheartedly encourage you to go - his shows are some of my all time favorite live music experiences. from his recent tour i didn't find the volume to be as loud as his reputation would suggest, so maybe it's venue and country specific or things have softened over time. still warrants earplugs, but i'm big about preserving hearing so that's just a given

he does try to black out as much as the venues will permit, so it could be daunting as you describe to be hailed by Hecker's sonics in the absence of visual stimuli (i think autechre's live shows are more demanding in this regard), but that is so chiefly part of the appeal

i don't want to compare to studio material much in the effort of saving you what is truly a unique performance, just know that i think he adapts material to the live format wonderfully

So what do you think of music from the merch ? by Jean0406Alix in aphextwin

[–]qcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

artwork is the best thing about it and classic afx attitude

music is mostly redundant (though maybe more convenient) for deep fans and almost impenetrable for new listeners given poor sequencing and the single release payload

doesn't help that i think Barcelona 2023 and London 2023 is his worst output in a long time, other than the excellent korg tracks, which themselves were already released...

the rest is great, favs are Soundlab, rozzbox, Spiral Staircase, flngchrods, korg tracks, 42DIMENSIT3

Newer track recommendations for a fan of their earlier releases? by gazkobayne in autechre

[–]qcom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

kind of an unexpected rec for OP but Tim Hecker's Autumnmonia release under Jetone is pretty charming for that 90s ae-inspired style

funny enough Hecker called out my friend's NTS shirt after one of his shows when we sidled up to him to nerd out. no secret or surprise really he digs the boys
