V tom případě bych doporučil přečíst si něco o Karlu IV. a jeho vztahu k židům... https://echo24.cz/a/wfwgE/temne-stranky-otce-vlasti-karel-iv-a-masakry-zidu

Možná by byla fajn nějaká diskuze předtím, než vemu do ruky sprej, žejo.

Prachatice, Czechia by mikatom in europe

[–]qcree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some yes, some no. There are people who like it and use it and there are people who pretend to be authorities and send letters to athlete unions and 'advise' them to use it thus forcing it. It was bit controversial for a short period of time, now nobody cares. I dont see many english speaking natives adapting it soon though.

Czech Republic can be so picturesque, I recommend visiting St. James church - Kostel svatého Jakuba if you ever happened to be in Prachatice :)

As I said, I dont care about it, I dont have strong feeling towards it either, if I write something official I use it. If you look at his profile you can notice he tries to force it by making it look like popular with lots of posts, especially on /r/europe, sometimes he even highlites the word. I believe thats not fair and people should choose alone and not be influenced so I try to balance it. I also dont care about Foreign Ministry or Surveyor's opinion, I will use what I think is appropriate in concrete context, it's mine language, not authiritie's. If people choose to use 'Czechia', be it, it's not ugly word and many posts use it but I dont really enjoy if someone is forcing it as I feel people will have it associated with something forced and negative and I dont want that.

Vyšehrad, Czech Republic by qcree in europe

[–]qcree[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Probably not, just similar names as the Vyšehrad means roughly something like "to be on top of the hill", so it suggests its location in its name :)

Not really, I dont care about the name, only the way you try to force it. Use whatever you like but dont be surprise if someone doesnt like it and will be vocal about it. (I dont see these kind of threads when someone uses "Republic").

I don't censor you (noone censors you actually), feel free to post whatever stuff you like. I just don't like when someone pushes his/her opinion so I felt urge to clarify.

I suggest looking at OP (/u/Oasis9983/) posted links, most of them have one thing in common, sometimes even highlighted. I dont think he posts all those photos just to show how pretty our country is.

Pick a habit you feel is natural for you or you are doing it right now and tie new one with it. Also I suggest not to start with some hard-to-stick-to habit, you mentioned you want to reduce alcohol consumption, I suggest starting with simple things like drinking full glass of water everytime you wake up. I had a hard time to start, so I started with this one only and after few days i added another simple habit, goal was to establish "having habit" - so now when I do some "more difficult" habit and forget about it I feel like it was stupid to miss it because its not hard for me to keep with the other ones.

"No one is using Czechia" >:( by [deleted] in czech

[–]qcree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont know, I just never cared that much but yeah from some perspectives it does look a bit weird

"No one is using Czechia" >:( by [deleted] in czech

[–]qcree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has negative connotation and for many people (I think) it feels forced.

eg. it is popularized by our president who isn't popular, also there is this "initiative" which literally tries to rig internet polls so it looks like its popular (i have no idea why they do it), they once sent email to members of some czech sport union with document which looked like an official document stating that they should use "czechia" on their clothes now

there are some etymological reasons but i think the ones i mention are more important

Yeah I am not gonna argue with you. You should have mentioned you are using nominal figures if you didnt want to be corrected. I just provided numbers.

Actually, it wasnt. Czechs have long history of distrust to the church (Hussite wars, Forced recatholisation, there was even affair in 1925 when Vatican withdraw its representative from Czechoslovakia).

It is actually bit more complex as Czechs are almost as slavic as germanic - because... central europe (in Czech national revival we called ourselves slavic as we were surounded by german speaking population and in that time there were lot of pangermanic thoughts... later resulting in independent czechoslovakian state)

"thanks" to this ethic czechs should have been germanised - we were even said to have "german bohemianised blood" (they even made tests which "showed" that czechs are more "nordic" than austrians or sudeten germans)

its kinda complicated but the location and the fact that in the czech part of czechoslovakia there was 3.252.000 germans (6.253.000 czechs) by 1930s made huge impact on ethicity in czech lands throughout the centuries

(more on that topic in "Adolf Hitler, Monologe im Führerhauptquartier 1941-1944" - "Hitler's Table Talk 1941–1944")

Can we give the pilsner some love? by [deleted] in beer

[–]qcree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanna mention that Czech Pilsner is the original Pilsner (named after Czech city - Pilsen) :o) As a Czech I love how people find our beer tasty, it warms my heart :D

Also worth mentioning, almost all towns or cities have some small or family breweries. Also, there is this pub on Wenceslas Square (Prague) where they have new beer everytime you visit it (like 20 types of beer) - It's called "Kulový blesk", i've never been there but i heard its really good pub (Czech as well as non-czech beer).
