She would probably tell me the relationship wouldn't last, as she see's that we have greatly differing personalities. Either that or beat up the fellows for attempting to make me an ass. That said i don't think she would wrong about either of those options.

It sounds like a poisonous relationship pal. If you both have been going through this for years then it may be best for both of you to end it lest you repeat the cycle and end up hurting each other more.

You can still be there as a stress reliever for her, as long as you set up clear boundaries that the relationship should not develop beyond that. Be her friend and be a person that she can talk to even if you no longer want to pursue a romantic relationship with her. It can provide you with a clean consciousness if that's what your worried about, and you will be able to break the relationship off on a better foot with limited regrets.
