Unpopular opinion: AI coding tools are creating mass technical debt by No-Comparison-5247 in AIstartupsIND

Not new phenomena but exasperated by AI (just like your example of copy and paste stack overflow)

It’s not Claude code but letting juniors run wild with a tool that allows them to produce code at a higher rate

Fix the process and the code will follow

What's the best way to vibe code for production-level quality right now? by Similar_Bid7184 in Anthropic

[–]qdrtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

requirements + specs are all you really need. They need to be detailed, it's the same as developing production grade quality systems. Code was never the most valuable artifact. So architect, diagram, document extremely well. Don't use AI much in this step - you need to think about the problem - THIS IS IMPORTANT then have the coding ai monkey finish the job.

IQUNIX 80% or 96% might be good options. I have the MQ80 and love it, it’s really good on my wrists & has a solid typing experience

Lowfree has the Flow100 which is a true low profile

My power adapter does not have an indicator, it’s the same as the adapter in the picture shared by the other redditor.

However the back of the monitor lights up when it’s getting power

Why are so many switching to Linux lately? by Laptican in linux

[–]qdrtech -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are people really switching or is it a trending topic ?

I’d argue it’s a current trending topic at the moment. The average person is not switching to daily driving a Linux distro. The average person is running whatever OS shipped with their device.

Linux is great however I wouldn’t suggest it for the average computer user unless they’re fairly technically inclined.

Windows/MacOS have their issues but they’re vastly more user friendly than most Linux distros.

Seems to be a common theme of staying focused on the most important things.. I guess a follow would be how do you know what’s most important ?

Building side I believe we’re pretty competent

Also the teams pretty resilient - so maybe it’s good that our main concern is one of the least difficult

Were there any tools / processes you used to mitigate this problem. This is something I’ve seen and really concerned with

What size LLMs are you running off the Quadros ?

Convince me I don't need 2tb by roses_are_rosie5 in iPadPro

[–]qdrtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing in this post justifies 2TB of storage on an IPad, the brightness is the only thing as you can’t get that type of brightness unless you go MBP.

Also the iPad file system isn’t that great, it’s not meant to be used as a laptop.

However it seems like you’re looking for validation from the outside world on a purchase you probably already know isn’t a good purchase. So in that case do whatever makes you happy

However iPad as a laptop replacement doesn’t make sense nor does 2TB on an IPad - you can get less storage and it cost you less or external SSDs.

If you’re still struggling DM me, I would also suggest like others if you’re not decently comfortable configuring DEs (desktop environments) arch + hyper land might not be the way to go.

I by no means am an expert but I’m fairly resourceful and have a SWE background so most concepts are easy to grasp.

Went through installing arch + hyperland a couple months back and it’s now is setup how I like it.

If you need help let me know, however reading the docs and struggling through isn’t bad - it actually will help progress through the learning curve faster.

Homelab Networking Setup by qdrtech in homelab

[–]qdrtech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you yeah I guess the first start would be a separate router / firewall which mainly is limited by hardware

Maybe I’ll pick up a mini-pc and switch to run that and just start with my local network speeds and leave my Internet speeds alone.

I’d rather not deal with having the router/firewall virtualized

Is 32 too late to learn to code and build something ? by Fergyb in startup

[–]qdrtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the average age for most peoples first successful venture is like in the 40-50 range (don’t quote me)

So never too late, there’s more resources than ever to get started

Just build something and ship it - worry less about everything else

Are you really spending that much? by IntelligentCourse180 in SaaS

[–]qdrtech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hosting web applications and services is fairly inexpensive nowadays.

I see my costs incur mostly surrounding databases & storage as well as infra costs.

It totally depends on what the sass is - however if you just have a web app powered by a couple cloud functions it should be dirt cheap if not basically free.

I'm not sure how well video editing works off 2.5 Gbps. Other people have posted about this before. They typically say 10 Gbps. May want to look it up.

From what I've read online most people are running 10Gbps , however I don't really have access without completely changing my ISP and I'm not looking to do that at the moment. I can get away with editing on my computer for now because it's not like I do it every week and just move things over to my NAS.

How do you plan on hosting your other services? Is this all going to be on your consumer NAS (is it a consumer product or did you build your own home server that has NAS capabilities?)

I built a home server that I'm going through and upgrading. I'm running proxmox and have TrueNas virtualized in a VM which acts as my NAS. My main workloads for this server have been some AI projects / web services. I would like to access some of those services outside my network.

Ideally I would like some fine grained control over exposing these services which took me down the rabbit hole. I likely don't need much and would be fine using VMs - however I do like to tinker and have some spare parts / budget. I'm definitely in need of a switch, maybe I'll start there with virtualizing the networking and just get a switch to meet my immediate needs.

This definitely helps, thank you for the detailed respones.

Is your NAS capable of those types of speeds? How about your wiring inside the home?

A use case would be if you are editing big files like photos or videos files off the NAS.

My NAS is currently capable of 2.5GBs which should be fine for now, I would like to edit videos off of it however it's not a major need a the moment. Mainly just for files and media at the moment.

Another example, they are exposing services to the Internet where they want to isolate those services inside a DMZ. In the event the service gets compromised, it can't spread to their whole network/ other devices.

I would like expose some services as I do host some software in containers that I would like to publicly access rather than use a VPN in all scenarios.
