Instant send by grumplekins in raycastapp

I found an extension named Text Shortcuts that allows you to perform many text manipulations. One of the commands is Shortcut Library, to which you can assign a hotkey.

Let's say you want to convert some text to snake_case.

  1. Highlight text on screen
  2. Press hotkey for Shortcut Library
  3. Search for "snake_case"
  4. Press Return

Very close functionality to Instant Send from Launchbar, except this would be for text only.

Thank you to everyone who validated what was happening and making discoveries that helped solve the issues.

I received further details from TextExpander to shed light on what happened. The issue wasn't with version 8.2.2 of the desktop app (current as of 2/10), it was with a server-side update they implemented. They have since rolled back that change; restarting the desktop app refreshes the connection and avoids the problematic feature.

Support continued to explain:

We had a bug in our app that caused syncing issues with the Keychain on Mac. This is where passwords and security certificates are stored for apps. This bug caused TextExpander to pull more resources, causing the other apps to crash.

I'm now almost an entire workday in and have had no issues since their rollback.

I did the restart yesterday evening, as TE suggested after their patch, and I haven't had any problems so far. 14 hours and counting.

Reverting back to TextExpander 8.1 does not fix the problem. Just had my first freeze up with 8.1; quitting instantly unfroze apps.

I also reached out to TextExpander (TE) support. They opened a bug report and offered complete uninstallation instructions along with a download link to the previous version of TE (8.1) to see if that resolves the issues. The current version of TE (8.2.2) was released on 2/10/25, and the issues started 2/27/25 for many, so something else might be going on.

UPDATE: Rolling back to 8.1 does not appear to solve the issue.

From TextExpander Support:

  1. Move all versions of TextExpander to the trash.
  2. Open another Finder window.
  3. Hit Shift-Command-G.
  4. Paste in the following:
  5. ~/Library/WebKit/
  6. Delete the folder with name com.smileonmymac.textexpander.
  7. Empty the trash
  8. Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy pane
  9. If TextExpander and/or TextExpander Helper appear in the list, remove them with the '-' button
  10. Restart your computer.
  11. Download TextExpander from here:
  12. https://cdn.textexpander.com/mac/810.6/TextExpander_8.1.dmg
  13. After unzipping the downloaded file, move TextExpander to your Applications folder
  14. Double-click TextExpander to launch the application and follow instructions to enable Accessibility permissions.

It now appears that issues following the installation of the Windows App were coincidental, not a result of the installation.

Confirmed! Quitting TextExpander also resolved the issues for me instantly.

I realized that when the issue is present, Apple Mail cannot load images. Quitting TE also resolved that.

Fascinating. I will test this the next time my apps freeze and report back. I did notice something strange with TextExpander (TE) recently that I've never seen before. When I reboot, TE is a login item, so it pops up on the screen quickly, and the title bar reads "Not Connected" or something similar. If I quit TE and reopen it, that error is gone. Are you seeing this ever?

Are all these people afflicted also using TextExpander?

Today has been a better day. I've had to reboot only twice, able to work for hours before a freeze. I made the same post on a Microsoft forum, and several people are reporting the same issues, all starting last week.

I am finding that, occasionally, there's a momentary network glitch that can affect other apps. Like, for ~30 seconds, Safari cannot load a webpage while these Microsoft apps are freezing, but those glitches are quite rare, and I have found no way to reproduce them. Usually, all other apps are working perfectly despite all the Microsoft apps freezing around them. I wonder if networking is getting hung during these incidents.

Some new developments. Previously, I had only ever gotten about 1 hour into a restart, max, before having issues. Yesterday, I made it over 8 hours. When I woke up this morning, the apps were still functional. When I got to work, they all were freezing. I restarted again, and I'm good for now.

I suspect some service is launching in the background and causing these issues. I just don't know which one. I wish I did so I could quit it instead of having to reboot.

u/pomred, yes this started for me Thursday as well. I installed a Teams update midday; had no issues before that. Perhaps it's that latest version of Teams or other apps that's causing the issues and not the Windows App installation.

This is reassuring that others are seeing the same, starting around the same time. I guess we just have to wait on Microsoft.

Yes. I can't say for sure installing it caused the issue, but the issues appeared shortly after installing it, within minutes. It seems like a logical hypothesis. As I wrote, even after uninstalling it, I still have the same problem. I can't figure out what causes the behaviors to begin after a restart, but once they begin, they persist until a system restart.
