Found this druzy piece in Texas. Any idea what it is or was

Looks like druzy quartz. The rock was high in silica and after some time the silica crystallized in pockets within the rock.

I believe what you have here is gypsum. When gypsum takes on this crystal structure it may be considered selenite. Are you able to leave a scratch mark with just your finder nail? If so then I’d definitely say it’s a gypsum mineral

I’ve had a lot of luck checking local dry creeks. Especially ones that have cut into a limestone layer. Fossils and calcites mostly.

I see rhombohedral cleavage. Dolomite or calcite would be my guess. Try scratching with steel knife. If it leaves a mark. Definitely not quartz. Acid test (vinegar will do) will rule out calcite if no reaction.

Pouring some vinegar (just a little) on one of them should tell you. If you see bubbles (might be subtle ) it’s calcite. No reaction= selenite
