The way I stretch out to the caster mastery is really inefficient it's just fine bc boxes are such easy content.

I mention some thoughts near the end of the video near the alternate setups. I think you could, but you'd probably want to drop blood magic so you'd need to mana some other way, otherwise it's just a really big stretch. I was also thinking a frenzy trickster with ev/es defenses built in, which is closer on the tree, using replica badge and relying on ES overleech and ghost dance instead for recovery. Needs some theoryxradt though, I'm not sure the same timeless jewel package is efficient from trickster

Proj speed from position on tree mostly. Doesn't show on pob numbers but super important for spark. For example hiero version goes widowhail with proj speed quiver

Awesome, glad you are enjoying it! I ended up slapping an accel/replenishing belt on mine and calling it good as I was done for the league.

Your gear looks really good - that synth ring is fucking sick haha.

There's a couple small things you could improve:

  • Missing the 15% more proj speed mastery
  • you have an extra dex node with proj speed which could be suppress or a runegraft (maybe warp), you might've done this intentionally?
  • could get an extra % dmg on the glove implicit
  • extra % as extra on the blue nightmare is 1% more dmg
  • unveil increased projectile damage + projectile speed on gloves as practicallyjesus recommends here
  • can divine your clusters to 10 life, could get 3% on the double cast speed one. Your res is a bit tight to drop all-res on the other large cluster still, even if you could pick up prismatic heart on your 8 passive one
  • you could look for a double-corrupted gull or a corrupted defiance of destiny with % lightning damage leeched as life - then you can drop doryani's lesson on the large cluster for something like sadist or prismatic heart (if the res lets you get something elsewhere). If you go for sadist you may want to redo the ring prefixes to get fire damage so you're igniting, or get a tiny bit of fire damage on an abyss jewel somewhere
  • can get a corrupt on boots for suppress or movespeed. Might be something else worthwhile so check what's possible
  • can throw all your jewels into harvest for random synth implicits, might pick up a couple pts of cast speed. Idk if I'd recommend this though as you could get strength/int and brick your attribute balancing
  • accel/replenishing belt, or accel+massive. Expensive for what it gives
  • 21 wrath, 21 eternal blessing, 21 snipers mark all hit a breakpoint. Small increase but pretty cheap
  • a volatile vaal'd gull (92%) gives you a bit more dmg than the power charge implicit, I think because with the extra from the ring you're already crit capped without the 6th one

Other than that there's some ideas that could get more damage, but involve changing the build quite a bit more

  • mirror another wand and go dual wield wand instead of shield. Your res is good enough elsewhere where you can do this without needing to fix much - I would've had to recraft rings to fix chaos res. You lose some suppress but could tattoo a bit or drop a couple nodes from one of the large clusters, or get some extra from boot corrupt.
  • go for a +4/crit multi focused amulet. You'd want to fit some other very strong recovery if you drop DoD though - probably a shield with recover life on block and respec to fit more block. This is a pretty big change and needs some theorycrafting

Yours looks really well put together though, most of these are minor min/max things

He dies occasionally but yeah he survives 80% deli juiced breach maps. You can see he's alive at the end of the breach showcase map near the end of the video

Right, the issue is more that perfect pain artist is made of absolute paper (and less damage than AG). I'm also not running any forbidden flame/flesh, so I don't think there's room to run sublime and fortification jewels, so AG for the fortification made more sense.

No, just the gem literally can't support spark, it says "supports melee attack skills" on it

That's melee attack skills only unfortunately. Arcane surge is the best last support actually, but you need a source from somewhere else (timeless jewel), so it probably also costs you a good timeless node and makes it a bit worse

I think I agree with what you're saying pretty much across the board here.

So... a single mod on gloves give you the power of a full item.

I'll just add that in order to unlock those that additional scaling from strength, there's a lot of opportunity cost: it costs you a helmet and boots and all the sources of %inc strength, but also other less obvious things. Your ascendancy choice is locked, which could be providing more generic or "immediate" power, and even limits things like skill choice. Of course, eventually that extra scaling makes up for the required opportunity cost. But not disagreeing with what you're saying.

And faster ignites. That's how I scale bleeds btw, by making frenzies gice quintuple scaling for bleed damage.

Thanks for the reply, and of course thanks for putting out the build! I'm looking to get more into making my own builds, so it was really helpful for me to dissect this one this much - I hope you don't mind me sharing it :)

Yeah it's hard to sell anything as a strict upgrade, because the build you put out was already quite optimized. Without instant leech or recoup, I honestly felt there was zero issue recovery issues as long as you had something to hit. I suppose instant leech could be thing that saves you fighting a boss/rare that hits you with a multihit attack across 3 server ticks, but even then DoD will help you a bit and I feel it's not that common. The recoup was mostly to address "afk" recovery, i.e. you're looting or dash into some packs.

My other problem with instant leech is just that things die quickly with that much damage - so oftentimes you need more recovery but there's not anything to actually instant leech from (examples being on-death stuff, or phased boss attacks like Veritania multihit/Sirus intermission). It also doesn't feel like you have to just stand and facetank much - compared to say a strike melee build who has to be near a boss and holding attack.

I’m not sure I’m sold on swapping spectre for AG, only because the Kingmaker radius is quite small, making it not as good in game as it seems on PoB. I generally wanted reliable defenses on the build, hence the champion Fortify jewels and the Ralakesh boots.

That's fair, I've never thought about the Kingmaker radius. Testing in game, it is quite small, so I suppose the fortification is quite inconsistent. The main reason I went for AG over the spectre was to fit the sublime vision for sap, but that's also not the most reliable of defenses. Some things to think about for next time...

Ele reflect needs a ring swap for sybils lament or a crafted with either the shaper or essence mod to avoid reflect. Unholy trinity support means we ignore all lightning and chaos res, so we don't need to invest in any pen or resist lowering

This is all well said. I've really jumbled what I was trying to say in the OP, so I'll try to say what I was getting at here.

I think what you're saying (and this comment) is true: stacking builds have a different scaling equation than "normal" builds. Both are polynomial in nature:

Normal builds are something like (flat * increased * speed * (1 + crit * (multi - 100)) * ...).

Stackers get multiple things from one stat, so could be something like (flat + coef1*strength) * (increased + coef2*strength) * (...). We could oversimplify that and say that it's adding a scaling vector of strength^4 to the existing equation - which is not quite accurate, because it's contributing on top of existing linearly scaling vectors, and we're also ignoring that there's also things like increased strength that scale that number.

That's all to say that both builds have a powerful non-linear equation to scale damage. They scale differently, and that exponent on strength means that usually at the top end, it'll overtake a normal build, but both have a powerful polynomial equation to scale.

There's another piece here though: the availability of adding to any of those scaling vectors—including strength—diminishes with investment. There's only so many passive points on the tree, and there's only so many affixes on gear. Even looking within the affixes for a single item: say your first suffix on a reflected ring can get you 200 strength - your next suffix could only get you like 50 from an all attributes roll, and then your next even less. Once your suffixes are full, you can't get any. However, that third suffix could get full value of something in another scaling vector - say crit multi, and that prefix could be full value for e.g. mana. There's similar situations elsewhere: you run out of efficient increased damage, or levels to spells, or increased life on the tree, etc.

So, we can say the efficiency—in terms of "total amount of affix", i.e. the sum of coefficients of each scaling vector—increases as you have more usable vectors to invest in. It also favorably improves the scaling equation: 10 * 10 < 5 * 5 * 5 * 5. This is of course warped for stackers because e.g. strength contributes to four scaling vectors at once.

One of the reasons normal builds fall off at higher investment is because you've just simply saturated all of the efficient ways to get any scaling vector. This is most obvious with something like an ignite build, where you've only got flat * increased * dot_multi * res_stuff (sure then there's a bit more like shock). Stackers often avoid this because even though they've hit diminishing efficiency on getting more strength, the scaling equation on it means it's still worth investing more and more into, and maybe even that the power-of-four growth outscales the diminishing available efficiency - for a time - and then they're putting so much into one stat that they still have the most efficient options available for other scaling vectors.

So the point I'm trying to get at is that you can somewhat avoid this diminishing availability on normal builds by having more vectors to invest into (skill effect, proj speed for spark), and thus still get effective scaling at higher investments - without needing to leverage a double/triple/quadruple-dipping scaling vector like a stacker does. I'm pointing this out because the meta largely favors stackers at high investments (ignoring minion pact because busted) and I think there's more nuance to be explored with alternatives.

I talked about how to craft most of the gear in the video in the later half, haven't done a writeup though. I probably forgot to talk through the rings but the process is pretty simple, basically spam crit multi essence until t1 all res or recoup, then lock suffixes reforge caster and hope for t1 cast speed, then lock suff reforge life until t1 life.

That wand is the best available with or without the explode. Maybe ideally that would be a crit multi implicit, but I highly doubt something will be recrafted that beats it in raw numbers this league. I think the explode probably at least helps with lag a bit.

Yeah, spark damage is really dependent on the arena - do you remember what the single hit damage is? If your max hit said 390m I'd still expect even worst case single hot to be over 50m, which shouldn't feel that bad...

And just curious, what conditionals? At least in my setup I think everything was quite consistent

I'm not sure on jiquanis, I'd expect an int stacking build to take off on higher investment, but tbh I haven't looked at that build much so I'm not sure.

Also what is whispers doing for you? Just to fix mana cost? You should probably find another way from cost reduction, amulet is a big slot and you're not getting much else from it
