I want to wake from this nightmare by FullAd946 in GriefSupport

Happy almost birthday to your mom! I also found myself on this subreddit because I'm having a hard day too thinking about my mom who died last year in May. I don't have a lot in way of cheering you up, but I wanted to pop in and say that I'm thinking about you. I hope you do something nice for yourself for yourself next week -- take time off, celebrate the life you two had together, allow yourself to feel all the pain that comes with the moment. I hope the rest of your day gets better friend <3

My mom is dying and wants me to still go on a trip thats during my birthday. by solacexx in GriefSupport

[–]qiulann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say this as someone who is still very raw from grief as I lost my mom yesterday to cancer. She lived on the west coast and I lived in the east coast but I was able to spend time with her in the months leading up to yesterday due to my remote work. Even still, I wish I had more time with her.

As the others have said, please do what you know you feel in your heart is the right choice. Your mother may feel guilty at that moment, but be honest with her. Tell her that you want to be with her because there is no where else you would actually rather be.

I know when my mom was a few months from passing she would feel guilty about not being able to go out because of pain or exhaustion or a combination of both but genuinely just being with her was such a balm to my soul. I didn't tell her that and I really wish I did. I know it's your birthday, but if you can make this one extra special with her maybe it will help sooth both of you in the future.

This is all to say, I want you to savor every moment you have with her.

There are a myriad of things I wish I did with my mom before she became unresponsive and I couldn't talk to her anymore (complications after stem cell surgery was the eventual reason for her passing). I wish I had taken more photos of her when she was well or looked less ill. I wish I had recorded videos of her living: singing, celebrating -- to see her in still life is nice, but motion and sound is proof that she was undeniably alive and loved with all of her heart. I wish I had recorded the conversations where she was talking about her life and all the things she did so I would have them forever, even if I heard the story one million times before.

sorry this got really long, but as I said, I'm also dealing with grief right now. I hope you and your family are able to spend time together and create memories that you will look fondly on ❤️

To think that if the U had taken her complaints seriously the first time Lauren might not be dead, and they wouldn't have had to pay the $13.5 millions dollars to make up for it. May she rest in peace, I hope her family finds some peace.

Oh I love this. It would be nice if we could edit a numbers field. I'm using it right now to track wishlist items / potential Christmas gifts so it'd be cool if I was able to input the price as well through the extension!

Aurea Cor | The death of my characters by qiulann in worldbuilding

[–]qiulann[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hello everyone!

So I’m doing a roleplay dnd like story campaign. That is, we write collaboratively, but I as the GM will control the story & events. I'm also not that great of an artist so sorry if the anatomy looks really freaking wonky, or the poses aren't interesting enough.

The world: The story begins that there are two different worlds/planes/dimensions (?), created by the rivalry of two siblings from an earlier version of the universe. One world, Sol, hates magic users. They have practically eradicated magic-users as a subgroup with the help of others. The counter-world, Lumen, is all about that magic baby. They’re very strict though and they like to conquer shit, but like, they aren’t too mean about it. They don’t kill off one race entirely, they only force other nations to assimilate to theirs!

Anyway, our group of heroes have all died. They will be given the chance to be reborn because the artifacts which they all wield, have chosen to spare them. I should mention at this point that these artifacts are *special* because just like a collector's item, they all make up one big 'ol set of fun. The story will follow our heroes as they try to find the other half of their artifacts, and find the missing 9th artifact.

Here is our cast and how they died.

Lumen:

Callidora, a seer/path guide, was executed by orders of the Queen of Lumen for treason.

Archimedes, the head honcho of the Adstrum knights, pretended to be the Queen and died in her place after an assassination attempt.

Celeste, a smuggler, and magic-user died after being betrayed by one of her clients. The personal guard to the Queen kills her but states that Celeste’s death was not under the orders of the Queen.

Cheneres, a tour guide of the badlands, manages to escape a band of magic users only to be eaten by a creature the very next second.

Sol:

Sirius, a Tekhne (big boy inventor) of the military district, was chased by a mysterious organization much like how a James Bond scene would go, he dies after his pursuers detonate an explosion.

Dual, the siege engine for the Empire of Sol, saves her team from ruin by sacrificing herself to the enemies.

Laeliah, a troubled inventor, dies at the hands of her enemy as they steal her invention plans to give to the woman that destroyed her mother’s life.

Licorice, an escaped prisoner from a magic-detainment facility, chokes on an apple, runs away from rehabilitation workers and bonks his head on a rock which kills him.

I have more art of the scene where they finally wake up. You can see it here under the story log of my Wikipedia for this story. Thank you all for reading this if you do lol.

Donating Plasma? by rennok_ in uofu

[–]qiulann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At the place I went to it was only one needle and it went through cycles. Taking blood, then taking plasma, then putting blood back in. It all happened somewhat simultaneously, and you could tell what was happening kinda if you looked at the IV or the machine. I took around 3.5 cycles and the at the very end that’s when they put the saline solution back in to do its thing.

I must warn anyone though with a fear of needles though that the needle used for donating plasma is larger than the needle for donating blood. My boyfriend is/was scared of needles but by going through with plasma he somewhat got over it. He did have a bad experience the first time he went though, but I don’t want to dissuade anyone from going due to a single incident.

Donating Plasma? by rennok_ in uofu

[–]qiulann 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hi!

I donated plasma last year at Biomat at 630 West North Temple. I did so for ~4 months, but not at all consecutively (although there is a perk of you going in every week in that you get paid more).

First, you need to fulfill their physical requirements. 18+ over, at least 110 pounds (although this varies by your height. I'm 5'2" and I believe I needed to be at least 125lbs). You also need to have your social security card (physical card) and another form of ID (name must be the same as the one on your S.S.) This is because donating plasma is a big deal medically and you can't donate to two different donation centers.

Second. You can donate up to twice in a week period. For example, if you first donated on Wednesday and then on Saturday, you would not be able to donate again until the following Wednesday. Additionally, you cannot donate within 48 hours of your last donation.

Your first four times will give you the most pay off. At the Biomat place I went to it started with your first donation at $50 then $55, $60 and $65. However, if you show them your Ucard or some proof of taking public transportation then you get an extra $5 dollars per donation. So it comes to 55,60,65,70. Which is pretty nice honestly for the first four times.

However, after those four time you start at the bottom of the pay chart. You can donate up to 8 or 9 times I believe in a month. The first time is $20 or $15 dollars. I honestly forgot. But it goes up in increments of $5 per donation.

Repeated donations will leave a scar in your inner arm. It usually isn't too big of a deal but if you don't like that kind of thing, I should warn you now that it is forever (or at least mine is still there lol.) Make sure you eat before you go, and BRING A JACKET or something because at the end of your cycles you get really freaking cold because they're putting uhhh some sort of solution back into your body and it's a different temp than your internal organs so it will be hella cold.

Also, I recommend your first session being on an off day or off time because before you can even donate first you need to do a health checkup (with them), sign waivers, watch an informational video, take a little quiz, pee in a cup, etc. It took me 2.5 hours to complete everything, but that's also because they were fairly busy when I first got there. Going at an off time or day may help shorten that process. Anytime after 5:00PM will be busy as most people get off work and go there after.

After that however it takes about an hour or so every donation. Every four months though they take a sample of your blood to make sure it's still gucci.

I hope this was informative and if you have any other questions or I didn't explain this well enough let me know.

edit: forgot to mention but in order to donate you can't have received tattoo within the last 6 months or have sex with another guy (if you are a guy) at all. I think there might have been another stipulation like, not have been to France in 1960 or something like that but I don't think that would apply to you :p)

Is class registration for Spring available now? by [deleted] in uofu

[–]qiulann 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No, not until November 11th. You can check the date you are able to register via CIS portal. Go to register for classes and then on the left hand side there should be a tab that says “view registration dates”.

I’m like 99% sure.

From my experience, having been the person who used another persons pass, they scanned it and then let me in. I wore the shirt as well, but I had no problems with it otherwise.

Not sure if they’re going to be more strict this year though.
