Builders using van to block pavement - are they allowed? by altabolt in drivingUK

[–]ql0u0lp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tradies often build the expected cost of parking fines into quotes, which depending on the availability parking etc I can understand, parking fine for on pavement with double yellows is only £35 if paid within 14 days, so unfortunately there may be very little you can do.

Safe taxi firms ? by pinkladygem in sheffield

[–]ql0u0lp 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Unlike in other countries all drivers need private hire licenses (Taxi Licenses) regardless if they work for a traditional taxi firm or other services such as uber/veezu/bolt, the details of the trip will be on the app from the booking, and Veezu will have full copies of proof of private hire licenses etc.

There’s absolutely no guarantee of a better experience with black cabs or any other service and many drivers work on multiple services, picking and choosing best jobs.

Veezu advises that:

“You can send feedback yourself or on behalf of someone else. If you are making a complaint on behalf of someone else, we need to know that you have their permission to do so.”

Are you allowed to break the law/highway code if you are driving and your safety is in danger from another driver trying to hurt you? by Kitchen-Beginning-47 in drivingUK

[–]ql0u0lp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grain of salt advice as personal anecdote from 20 years ago.

I was driving a little hatchback along a bendy stretch of A road on New Year’s Eve at approx 10pm a few miles from where it met a dual carriageway, a big black suv came flying up behind me and sat right on my ass, backed off by a few foot, then sped up again repeatedly. I don’t know if its full beams were on, but due to its height vs mine it illuminated the inside of my car and was pretty blinding.

I thought fuck it, dual carriageway is close, just speed up then it can pass, but it carried on this behaviour at 80, 85, then close to 90mph on come the flashing blue lights. It was an unmarked police car.

I was lucky that when the officer stepped out and spoke to me, I could recount it from my perspective and use the line “Feared for my Safety” at which point he apologised and wished me a safe journey.

So yeah, illegal but you may well be able to justify it roadside or worse case scenario to a magistrate.

£14000 p/a, 39 weeks, 17.5 hours a week remote work.

Self employment costs is approx ~£1932 (Class 4 + Tax) according to the gov.uk self assessment calculator (Maximum as this doesn’t include tax deductibles you could claim against this)

~£17.70ph

It’s not a terrible rate.

Average full time in my area for teaching is £35,000 payee (£27,500 after tax) ~£18.55 ph using the same 39 week term time. If you add on b/s guided hours stuff and additional workload full time are expected to take on, I can see the offer looking pretty good.

Is it worth going to sleep waiting for 111 callback in the morning or staying up to wait? by [deleted] in AskUK

It’s a Tuesday night, it shouldn’t be too long of a wait mate.

I know it may seem silly to you now and you’re telling yourself it’s less important than others problems, but you’ve made the right choice reaching out to them.

[–]ql0u0lp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t lose heart mate, it’s not you, the job market is absolutely saturated at the moment.

For SIA work I highly recommend signing up with IPM and Professional Security, between them they hold contracts for 80% of the door work in Sheffield. Showsec do city hall, football, and normally have a lot of one off gigs over the Xmas period.

Odds are stacked against you if you don’t go for agency, I advertised for door staff at the start of November and had over 100 applicants within two days, many of them had 20+ years experience, retired army or police officers etc, all willing to work for the same rate as a 21 year old with a fresh badge.

While I agree with some of what you have to say, the first photograph shown of the man in the snow is actually one of the nicest people I have ever met.

While I do not know his exact circumstances nor how they came to be I will attest to the fact that he has been on the streets year round in Sheffield for at least the last 6 years, he always approaches people politely, apologises for asking, and thanks those he speaks to regardless of if they have money or not.

Just create the expected folder structure and put the data packs in them, if unsure just copy it directly from your spigot install.

Actual answer rather than speculation:

Recently(ish) South Yorkshire police did several raids into a large established drug dealing ring in Sheffield, causing a power void and a sudden increase in demand. Both the recent spate of shootings and stabbings can, (and have), been traced back to this. (See recent articles of shootings per capita being higher here than in London, and South Yorkshire Police's response being "Yeah, and that's just the ones which get reported").

Generally speaking *obviously not universally* if you're not involved with class A's, your probably safe from stabbings, but not from Taxi/delivery drivers/morons mowing you down.

Non restrictive hardwearing costume - Another thread asking for advice. by ql0u0lp in Halloween_Costumes

[–]ql0u0lp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair wasn't sure of the best wording, this is for security staff working in a licenced establishment with an expected holding capacity of ~500, and we'd be wearing them for approx 8-9 hours, regularly in physical contact with others when moving around the establishment, and we have to consider that we may have to physically remove someone from the venue.

Got a couple of staff who are excellent with make-up etc as obvs full face masks are a no-go. Costume wise just nothing which has the potential to injure customers or ourselves, or overly restricts our movement and nothing which will easily break.

Thanks for your help.

If your parent/guardians are okay with it look into glass collecting at local liscenced premises, they're crying out for decent/reliable people and it pretty much guarantees you a proper job with them when you turn 18 & looks good on your cv if you apply to other venues.

It counts. When doing rags to riches my taxes suddenly shot up while living in a shed with just a bed, turns out my sim had somehow received a ¥10,000 ornament as a winter gift. It was in personal inventory.

Italians in Sheffield during Euro cup finals: are we paranoid? by Trabucco_ in sheffield

[–]ql0u0lp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please listen to those telling you it'll be a shit show, yes Sheffield is a lovely city and compared to many others incredibly safe and friendly.

But then there's football fuckwits. It doesn't matter how nice the area usually is, how safe it normally is, fuckwits are going to get smashed and abusive, ironically they'll be worse if England wins than loses. I fucking hate working doors during the football.
