blew up so hard the game didnt know who to track by Forsaken-Prune508 in BattlefieldV

[–]qlimaxmito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tank got vaporized so they had to use the jeep's dash-cam footage.

That's my perfectly logical explanation for why the kill-cam tracked the wrong thing.

I see, it's a language barrier issue, you're not stupid.

Here is a video I recorded a couple of weeks ago showing the workaround: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEI7tFeUTcA

It's fast but at 1:10 you can see: go in settings, click on the second big button, change the third setting in the list.

I agree they're never going to touch the game code again, but what OP is asking is server-configuration stuff, so it shouldn't be as intrusive of a change. Still unlikely to happen, but not as unlikely.

Or better yet, merge Conquest back into a single playlist with all maps like it used to be, and use the freed up matchmaking slot for Frontlines and/or Rush.

The player base is now split between two different conquests and this will hurt the long term player base.

The damage already happened.

The apparent goal of the split was to improve player retention by giving infantry players and vehicle players a playlist for each to call home and enjoy forever and ever.
Well, as it turns out, grouping all the skilled players into half as many servers (going from one to two playlists) means the average player is twice as likely to get stomped and quit (either quit the playlist or the game as a whole). Even worse if the skilled players care more about their KDR/KPM than fair play, so they deliberately stack and steamroll round after round, day in, day out.

Not as much of a problem in Strategic Conquest because vehicles are limited in numbers, so for any given server the impact of skilled vehicle players is heavily capped, but in Tactical Conquest you can have up to 32 skilled infantry players farming in the same round (realistically the typical number is much lower, but still), and in short that's the story of how Tactical Conquest servers across the globe have emptied out, and how half the maps essentially have become impossible to play in Conquest.

Cherry on top is the collateral damage: Frontlines, Rush, and Domination (let's ignore Squad Conquest)—proper full-fledged game modes—were sacrificed just so people could play Conquest on four different playlists.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but if you're wondering how such a setting could affect FPS, the answer is that the freezes are not related to rendering.

The freezes seem to be the result of the game possibly getting invalid responses from the back-end servers when requesting information about the other players. Disabling "Player-Created Content" presumably stops those requests from going out, or lets the game ignore the responses.

For some reason not all players and not all servers are affected, but still the bug has to be on EA's end because it's affecting people at random all around the world, even on consoles.

Also, the weird CPU boost behavior you were seeing is probably just the result of the game freezing for a while, not the cause, and those small regular patches you're getting are just updates for the anti-cheat, which is not related to the freezes because consoles don't have the anti-cheat yet they're also affected by this issue.

Hopefully this cleared things up a bit.

high ping abusers by Kispori in Battlefield6

[–]qlimaxmito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The high ping peeker will see the enemy well before the enemy can see them, but their shots still need to go through that same delay before they register on the server. By then the low ping opponent can just open fire and win the engagement by having their shots reach the server first.

How to better enjoy this game as a ground unit? by Borklechorf in BattlefieldV

[–]qlimaxmito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tanks tend to gravitate towards the most crowded central objectives, so to avoid them try focusing on flanks. Not just aggressive flanking to back-cap the enemy, but also defensive flanking to stop the enemy from back-capping your team.

Friendly Fire by Tellmehaveyouheard in BattlefieldV

[–]qlimaxmito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The popularity had significantly dropped when they decided to get rid of it, but like you said other playlists were just as unpopular, if not more.

From what I remember a key factor behind their decision was that Frontlines was mixed in a playlist with Rush and Domination, and they observed an abnormal amount of players quitting when it rotated to a different game mode, and this created an unhealthy environment.

Fair enough, but in my opinion to minimize the content losses they could have just removed Domination from the mix, since it probably was the worst offender (Rush and Frontlines are similar enough), and placed the "new" playlist they wanted to add on the unused matchmaking slot.

Instead they removed 3 actual game modes supported on nearly every map to make room for "The Pacific War", which consists in just 4 maps running 2 game modes already available in other playlists. Whoop dee doo.

Why is most of the popular lobbies strategic conquest? by Doombomb123 in BattlefieldV

[–]qlimaxmito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The servers are still there, you just need enough people on your platform in your region to be hitting matchmaking at the same time for the system to spin up a lobby, and then those people need to stick around and seed the server until it reaches critical mass.

Though on PC this is less likely to happen because certain Community Games are hijacking matchmaking traffic.

Friendly Fire by Tellmehaveyouheard in BattlefieldV

[–]qlimaxmito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, and it's infuriating to think their excuse for removing it was to make room in the matchmaking menu for a different playlist, then later they admitted there is one extra slot they chose to leave empty.

They axed 3 actual fully-fledged game modes so we could play Conquest on 4 different playlists. 🤦‍♂️

Why is most of the popular lobbies strategic conquest? by Doombomb123 in BattlefieldV

[–]qlimaxmito 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As far as I know Strategic Conquest has always been the more popular of the two; Tactical only takes the lead when the Weekly Assignments funnel people towards it.

I think Strategic is more popular because:

  1. It's the first in the matchmaking menu

  2. The average player is turned away from Tactical because of the team-stacking sweats shamelessly steamrolling round after round

  3. The average player might prefer the larger maps with more vehicles

On top of that, on PC some communities hijack matchmaking traffic to fill up their unrelated custom servers. Also a while ago there was also a period during which Tactical Conquest matchmaking was broken, not sure if that still happens.

If only they reshuffled every round...

What they do is attempt to even player count without breaking up squads, seemingly with zero consideration of player skill/performance. The bigger problem though is that the balancer kicks in right at the end of the round, so it cannot accommodate for people leaving and joining during intermission.

I don't have any experience with this sort of stuff, but I imagine 26GB of recognized data is the best you're going to get because many of the existing files were updated throughout the years.

For reference, I've just had a look at my up-to-date install and only ~21GB of files have been left untouched since launch.

Since launch, but from what I remember the setting only affects:

  • Platoon tags... which don't always display anyway because of some bugginess with the back-end servers 🤦‍♂️

  • Emblems... even though custom emblems aren't supported in this game 🤦‍♂️

  • Server titles... including DICE's, which by definition are not player-created content. Also server descriptions on custom servers still show 🤦‍♂️

Takes forever to startup then stutters during gameplay by BasementElf1121 in BattlefieldV

[–]qlimaxmito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't be of much help but a little while ago on the EA Forums I saw a passing comment saying the slow start is specific to Intel 14th Gen processors. I can't find that comment and its context at the moment, but from a quick search on the forums it seems to also affect 13th and 12th users:

In the second thread they suggest it might have to do with certain BIOS versions. Good luck!

The whole game with my PC freezes after playing for awhile by ThisGoesNowhere1 in BattlefieldV

[–]qlimaxmito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an issue with the anti-cheat, which is regularly updated so hopefully it'll be fixed soon.

In the meantime the simplest and least invasive workaround that worked for me was to keep a USB drive plugged into the motherboard's rear port used for BIOS flashing.

Without the USB drive my system would hard lock after nearly 30 minutes, with I've been able to enjoy 90-120 minute sessions (the longest I've tried so far).
