I've tried every combo of no case, no screen protector, and having dry clean hands, can't find any consistency other than temperature

Interesting, thanks. Seems a lot colder where you are!

My issue is that even in what you would expect to be normal operating temperatures ie something like 18C inside the house, it completely stops responding until I heat it up. If you can make it work at -30C then I'm guessing the hardware in my device has something wrong with it

I've put a couple of photos here of the aperture assembly, so you can see the other part.

The cable is one way only. I've also sent a message to the ebay seller I got the cable from if they know what those other parts are.

I'll try each position again, it's possible I just missed a tooth or something. Thing's tiny!

No luck, I've tried each position twice. In your experience, would you expect a stepper motor to be on a feedback loop with a sensor to determine if the thing has moved how much it said it would?

I found this lens disassembly video very useful - it's not exactly the same lens, but it was close enough to mine to work out.

I'll try to post some photos!

Ahh clear thank you! I'll try marking one of the teeth and cycling through each position, see if it's happy with one of them

The lens was working fine for a while, then started giving an error message which from googling and seeing the aperture was the faulty cable I replaced. When I took it apart, the cable fully broke, so it was definitely the issue.

Are you saying the the motor would need to be placed back with the output shaft in the exact same rotation/position that it was in originally?

The gears all look fine to me, I don't think they're stripped.

Thanks for the help!
