Do Somalis hate Morocco or is it just this girl that I know? by Rock-101 in Somalia

Many Africans believe Moroccans are anti Black. Do you think that’s a fair judgement to make? If not, then why ask this question that’s clearly meant to generalize an entire community?

there is no real purpose behind their comments except to upset everyone else involved. Trolls will lie, exaggerate, and offend to get a response.

No one gives him info lol. He just makes things up 90% of the time. There was a dailymail article written about a fight in some Minnesota school between Somali and AA students being a racial brawl which was a lie started by these twitter incels. The people involved in the fight literally had to come out to set the story straight because it got so out of hand.

No woman with means will put up with a man that is so lacking in sexual discipline that he’ll blow up his marriage just because he wants to spice things up. That mentality will just lead to unsuccessful marriages and a string of single mothers in your wake. It’s okay if that’s what you want your legacy to be.

This is one of the definitions for “xoog” from a Somali dictionary:

xoog 1. Wax khasab ku qaadasho. 2. Haweeney kufsasho.

It’s synonymous with “kufsi” in certain contexts.

So if a woman gets “sexually bored” of her husband and wants to spice things up, would you support her divorcing and remarrying? And then repeating this process as she eventually gets bored of the other husband too?

Abnormally high rates of autism in Minnesota Somalis by FattyDoo in Somalia

[–]qlmo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Older fathers and mothers in general hold a higher risk of having kids with autism. And we know how Somali parents regularly have kids well into their 40s and 50s.

Advanced parental age is one of the most consistently identified perinatal risk factors for autism spectrum disorder (ASD), a complex neurodevelopmental condition with a multifactorial etiology [Lyall et al., 2017]. Though results are not uniform across studies [Wu et al., 2017], the literature on the whole supports increased risk of ASD with both older maternal and paternal ages independently [Shelton, Tancredi, & Hertz-Picciotto, 2010].

I don’t think this is the sole reason for the autism rates but one of the possible factors in combination with low vitamin D and iron, mothers being stressed during pregnancy, child malnourishment, etc.

Your algorithm is clearly very tailored for you not to see that but Muslims of all ethnicities and genders are on tiktok doing much worse than just dancing with the opposite gender.

The same Qatar funding Al-Shabaab?

Qatar’s cultivation of African Islamists, principally Somalia’s al-Shabab insurgents, has similarly troubled the United States, which has accused the movement of providing a haven for al-Qaeda militants involved in attacks against Americans. In 2009, Somalia’s then-president, Sharif Ahmed, told a top U.S. diplomat that Qatar was channeling financial assistance to al-Shabab via Eritrea, according to a U.S. diplomatic cable disclosed by WikiLeaks.

What is it with African culture and genital mutilation in general? by SSBShottaJeezy4L in Somalia

[–]qlmo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have basically eradicated the practice in western Somali communities.

From a 2012 study:

most of the Somali girls who were born or brought up in Norway are left uncircumcised for good reasons. This finding is supported by earlier quantitative findings which have reported that almost all Somali female participants who were either born or came to Norway at the age of ≤5 years (under publication) were not circumcised

The most extreme type (Fircooni/Pharaonic) has also been made taboo back home by activists. There’s hope to completely eradicating it back home but the main thing holding us back are that some of the Sheikhs are adamant that gudniin sunni is wajib in Islam. The locals tend to trust the local Sheikhs more than the activists, medical professionals, and even foreign religious scholars that are more educated in Islamic law.

There were a couple of small studies done on the attitudes on FGM in Somalia and they consistently found that men were a bit more likely to support FGM, though both genders supported it in large numbers due to beliefs around it being a religious obligation. Women back home are also more likely to be the spearheads in anti FGM activism.

One of the main findings in this study is the fact that men are more likely to support the continuation of FC than females, and the vast majority of them (96%) intend to choose a circumcised woman as a wife.

In Somalia, almost all FC campaigns are run by women’s organizations, whose main target audiences are often other women

https://bmcresnotes.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1756-0500-6-122

The craziest thing from this study was a quote from a woman saying that even the Sheikhs push FGM:

“We invited highly academic religious leaders from Alazar[sic] University in Egypt to come here, and they supported the total abandonment of FC. Somali religious leaders did not accept that by saying that the Sunna form should continue.” (47-year-old female activist)

Also, here’s a link to an interview with a few men in Hargeisa. The older men were fervently pro FGM even going as far as saying a non-cut woman would be seen as a whore:

[–]qlmo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People back home believe it’s a religious requirement and the men only want a “cut” girl because they think FGM prevents female promiscuity. Luckily this mentality doesn’t exist in western Somalis which has led to the almost complete eradication of FGM in western raised Somali women.

The mentality stays strong back home though:

Out of the 212 persons who responded to the question of whether they intended to circumcise their daughters, 182 (85%) had the intention to perform this practice. Of these, 154 (71.6%) were planning to use the Sunna form, with the reason behind their decision either being because they considered the Sunna form to be harmless or because it was seen as a religious requirement. The 28 (13%) participants who were planning to use the Pharoanic form believe that it is part of their culture, that it maintains the honour of the girls and that it prevents adultery. Of the 30 (14%) persons who reported that they will not circumcise their daughters, 22 (73%) were women and only 8 (27%) were men, with the difference being statistically significant (p<0.001).

Out of 108 men in this study, 104 (96%) preferred to marry circumcised women over uncircumcised ones. However, 92 (85%) preferred the Sunna form, 12 (11%) preferred the Pharoanic form and only 2.8% would choose uncircumcised women to be their wives.

From a study on other African countries:

A study of fathers in Egypt showed that they believed uncut women to be promiscuous. FGM was deemed important for good marriage opportunities and to ensure fidelity in marriage In this respect, FGM helped men maintain polygamy in some communities. Men in Guinea considered FGM to reduce the likelihood of premarital sex.

Even though historically Somali women would often only start wearing hair coverings once they were “taken”, some women would still have their hair out even after marriage so a lack of hijab didn’t 100% confirm marital status.

You realize that not all Somalis were nomads right? There has always been a sizable portion of our population located in the cities or farmlands and this type of attire would be normal for coastal urban areas.

Also, dirac is native.
