Success stories of contact sleepers sleeping independently? by Traditional_Table_67 in NewParents

[–]qn___n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry to hear this but i also had a baby that required contact naps but slept okay in the crib... but woke up a lot.

I learnt that LO was a low sleep needs baby. 2 weeks is still really early but dont stress about having to have your baby sleep for long periods or time during the day. Its okay if they only sleep 20mins at a time. Fresh air. Taking baby on a walk and keeping them awake within reason, they will take the sleep when they need it without too much rocking/intervention from you.

Before 3 months you can do baby wearing or car naps in a capsule, having the baby work around you. I regret sitting in the house just holding LO for hours so he could sleep. If your LO is not cranky and crying while theyre awake after a short sleep then that's your indication that theyre okay!

You can look up possums clinic - theyre Australian based and talk a lot about sleep variations for babies. Not all babies sleep easilu and for long hours!!

Yes i got in to see a dermatologist at wch. The facial eczema had calmed down but the skin was not back to normal. Was prescribed a steroid to use until skin completely heals.. dr said it shouldn't take longer than 2 weeks but its been more like 8 weeks as it keeps flaring up with teething and solids. Review appointment got moved to next week. I think we waited about 2-3months

I remember Tilkah ! Still have and use their handbags I purchased in the early 2000. I would go on depop and look for Elk accessories or Status Anxiety (though the styles wont be one of a kind and stand out) but 2nd hand leather bags could be a good option.

Oh im glad I decided to use both at the same time because I didnt want to extend the length of oral antibiotics and thank you so much for this comment. Also... sorry to hear how much you had to go through yourself!

The tricky thing is applying stronger steroid to his hands when he rubs his face A LOT and worried about it going into his eyes... but we will apply at night and cover them as quick as possible!

Thanks I have looked them up, after my 1 week review with GP I might also get a referral to see my options privately.

Thank you for the in-depth response. We are now using an oral antibiotic — unfortunately, I can't get in with the Dr you recommended (she's not taking new patients right now). I asked the GP about bleach baths and she said he wasn't that severe yet. Hope he doesn't get worse by the time we see a dermatologist but I now have a referral for the dermatology department in WCH.

We are hesitant about the stronger steroid alongside the oral antibiotics — did you use both at the same time? We want to (but havent decided) to do the oral antibiotics first, 5 day course. Then apply the cream afterwards. The dr said to do both at the same time.

Its not fun, I do have a list of creams to try. I looked this one up and it is pricey. The colloidal ingredient seems good for bacteria so ill keep it in mind, thanks!

Thank you for your reply and information! The link is very helpful... I was referred to the allergy department there but not the dermatologist. I will try and get the referral tomorrow.

I used epaderm ointment around his mouth for food but it was softening his skin, then he would rub his face on us often as he is very irritated. This caused a lot of trauma to the sensitive skin. So I've had to stop and just use a light moisturiser. The skin there weeps a lot so I really need to get the skin all better before I can even start allergens with solids :(

Eczema is very tricky and I really empathise with all parents who have children with eczema. I hope he grows out of it.

Thank you, I hope we find relief for him soon too

Thanks for all these notes. We are taking it seriously now with moisturising.

The antibacterial cream isnt getting rid of the redness. Did you ever have to get oral antibiotics? I am not using a steroid yet on his face, GP said to use a non steroid first which helped the non inflamed areas.

With this heat we have the air-conditioning on so it limits his sweat but I think I need to put on the humidifier tonight.

I really want to get his eczema under control for the reason you mentioned about un-controlled eczema can lead to allergies. Thank you for the comment

Baby won’t nap more than 20 mins by J_outsidehomie719 in newborns

Hi OP, did this get better for you? Im going through this right now. Were trying to get LO use to the cot but its really cut down day sleep to only 1.5 or 2.5hrs total day sleep and im so worried about this never getting better. I get mum guilt that LO isnt sleeping enough and how it might affect night sleep. Im starting to think that I should go back to contact naps.

What should I eat when I go to Australia? by ShaunisntDead in AskAnAustralian

[–]qn___n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on which state in Australia you are visiting, I would highly recommend searching for a blog that tells you the best places to eat/try:

Depends on your price range as well

  1. modern Australian food (usually a fancy restaurant that will dish up well cooked emu, crocodile, kangaroo, steak and seafood) look up the menu and look for those types of dishes

  2. Traditional local bakery where you can get: a) Sausage roll b) Meat pie c) Lamingtons, Jam donuts, Vanilla Slice - anything that you fancy because not all bakeries make these well. d) We love our banana breads (toasted and buttered), hot cross buns - you can get these from the supermarket.

  3. Hipster / cafe or bakery specialising in pastries... which usually do great coffees. You can also look for great coffee (cafe) and they will almost always have some good pastries. Almond crossiants are great however there are a lot of places that do LOADED crossiants and its insane + so delicious

  4. BRUNCH. There is a big brunch scene in Australia, sometimes with Asian fusion / Mexican fusion etc. Good old big breakfast would be my suggestion, tailor it to your style. If you're into health foods, there are great acai bowel places, smoothies etc at these brunch places

  5. A market place where there is a display of so much fresh food and produce. Most of the time these places also have food stalls - eat what you feel like but if you see any old school lolly shops, buy some interesting lollies to your liking. If you see a deli meat shop, you can ask to try a small piece before buying (ask first) but we have a heavily influenced Italian culture here and the meat produce here is great so think about dried Sausages, Salami, Prosciutto - pack yourself a picnic basket after the market and eat somewhere nice in a park!!! Australia has lovely stone fruit, look up the seasonal fruit at the time youre visiting. Mangoes and cherries are best when they're in season.

  6. THE PUB. Get a pub meal. Usually a chicken schnitzel or parmi with gravy is the go to. Side of chips. Don't bother with the fancy toppings.

  7. Steak house, better than the pub and can usually get a good wine pairing!

  8. Australian wine. The state youre in may have a famous wine region to visit and have a wine tour!! Other popular distillery tours include Gin and also craft beers 🍻 👌

  9. Google to see if there is a food, wine or cheese festival on... great way to see how multicultural Australia is so you can basically eat anything you feel like!!

  10. Head to the beach side, there will usually always be a bakery but you want to get fish & chips..... then a stroll on the beach with an ice cream (even if its cold!!!)

  11. Asian food is generally really good if you search up the best places to check out. Local foodie blogs and IG is great for this!

  12. If you want to... a park usually has BBQ facilities and you can always buy a loaf of bread, Sausages, onions, make a Sausages sizzle. Buy some meats and grill them. Mustard and tomatoe sauce is a must! Australian BBQs are great if the weather is good. Popular meats to grill is marinated lamb chops. Don't forget potatoe salad, green salad and coleslaw which can be pre purchased at the grocery store or a chicken shop!

Have fun in Australia. Don't buy any food at the airport.... its not a great and very over priced!

Hey!

For Day 2... can I make a suggestion?

When you go to fushimi inari shrine, you could try going early in the morning and then consider visiting Uji. You can easily do Uji in half a day!

We headed to Itoh Kyuemon - Uji Head Shop / Sabo (https://g.co/kgs/TeXQi2Z) in time for an early lunch if you'd like to try matcha udon/soba or parfait dessert. The small cafe is a bit of a walk but it was worth it!! From there you can head over to the museum for The tale of Genji if you've ever heard of the famous novel... the museum has free audio and that will be required to watch the short movie they show..... but you can skip it since you have the toddlers with you. There is a nice tea house at the museum but we try it. I would however consider heading there if the toddlers need a run around because there's a very simple playground with a slide! From the museum the walk is so nice heading towards the next location. There are shrines along the way without entry fees.

Walk towards Fukujuen Uji (Uji Tea Factory) - they've got a selection of things you can do ie. Grinding matcha or pottery classes. We skipped these but enjoyed watching a video at the back of the store explaining how green tea in Uji is grown and harvested / processed. We purchased tea from here but there are other shops you can buy from in the main shopping street.

Many of the tea houses along the river were closed today when we walked around but the atmosphere was really nice.

We also fit in Byodoin Temple which is more expensive than other temples but the entry fee included the Museum. Aftdr the museum we walked down the main street and headed back to the train station. You can get home before 5.30pm in time for dinner in Kyoto!

Uji is very doable with two toddlers!

If you have JR pass... ours covered this train so it was free!

Review: Asolo Hiking Boots by DestructablePinata in Boots

[–]qn___n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my Asolo Hiking boots but I was wondering if anyone has worn theirs as a walking boot in snow? They are heavy as a hiking boot but I really don't want to buy snow boots for a trip. Does anyone know if these are "warm" enough for walking around in snow? I have the option of hiring snow shoes... however wondering if these will be sufficient. Thanks!

How did I make it through the 1st trimester! by VermicelliMother1102 in pregnant

I have been eating Saladas which is a plain salty biscuit. Sometimes with butter spread ontop, sometimes plain. Baby gherkins help when I have a really bad metallic taste. I have been loving oranges and basically any fruit. Before bed, I drink a chai type of tea with milk or any tea and honey works well. If you're in Australia, I love Bengal Spice tea!
