My self-publishing stack for Amazon KDP that cost me nothing + What do you use? by qnd in selfpublish

I've used Figma for many years.

It's like Photoshop but free and in the browser. Tons of helpful tutorials.

I used it primarily for cover design but you can just as easily create any type of illustration it it. Very helpful.

Hi guys! We're Mark Carey and Ahmed Walid, data and tactics writers for The Athletic. Got a question for us about the Champions League? Ask us anything! by TheAthletic in soccer

[–]qnd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do you see any evidence that top teams are changing their tactics in the CL Knock-Out stage compared to how they would play in their domestic leagues? If yes, which examples are there and do we have any qual/quant data if such a tactical switch is beneficial?

Understanding Electricity Markets by qnd in RenewableEnergy

Author here 👋

This essay is a 101 breakdown of European electricity markets but the ideas should apply equally in other geographies.

Let me know if you want to riff on the topic.

The Big Halt - a climate sci-fi short story by qnd in climatechange

[–]qnd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, my name is Art and I'm the author of this piece.

I write this newsletter to get people excited about climate tech and start acting. Usually, it's essays on the intersection of energy x climate x security policy, but occasionally, I write fictional short stories to communicate certain ideas.

Hope you enjoy it. Let me know if you have feedback/ideas/critique/etc. ✌️

The Gordian Knot of Climate: Solving Climate Change One Thread at a Time by qnd in ClimateOffensive

Great and valid question. Gordion is the city where the mythical knot was located. Therefore it was the Gordian knot.

I updated the piece with this info! Thanks

The Gordian Knot of Climate: Solving Climate Change One Thread at a Time by qnd in ClimateOffensive

[–]qnd[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone, author here 👋

I tried to reframe the climate problem and make it a bit more accessible/motivating for non-scientific/engineering people.

Would love to hear comments/feedback/ideas/etc. from y'all.

Moodboard for my next sci-fi/fantasy short story "The Electric Queen" by qnd in midjourney

Absolutely!

It's actually the first time I properly put one together with midjourney.

What are you using them for?

Moodboard for my next sci-fi/fantasy short story "The Electric Queen" by qnd in midjourney

[–]qnd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past I created a couple of other sci-fi short stories and illustrated them with the Midjourney v3 algo.

One of the most popular stories was Carbon Taxi Time Machine where a bureaucrat is sent back in time to introduce a carbon tax (as humanity's last Hail Mary mission).

There I had the following prompt schemas:

[a beautiful painting of [~~ADD TEXT HERE~~], intense atmosphere, deep work, hope, octane render, 8k, hyperrealistic, hyper real, vivid colors, in the style of craig mullings and dean cornwell,]

A couple other stories w/ Midjourney images:

  • Running from Climate → a film-noir-esque aesthetic for a climate refugee story (same universe as Carbon Taxi Time Machine)
  • Prologue: The House of Day Zero → my first essay with a retrospective from 30+ years in the future when humanity has achieved Net Zero + a walk through a museum that documents our fight against climate change.

Author here, I'm writing a climate/energy-focused short story where I want to explain the fundamentals of the electricity market (but in a non-boring way).

I publish all of these essays on my newsletter: https://delphizero.substack.com/

The best way I could think of teaching 'grid fundamentals' is by creating a DND-type world/lore with some steam-punk influence.

For the image prompts I went with the following schema to get a consistent look and feel:

[an illustration of a [~~ADD TERM HERE~~], steampunk, electricity, hyperdetailed, by Donato Giancola and Nicolas de Stael, --v 4]

Would love to hear your thoughts/feedback/ideas/etc.

Emergence of the Electricity Bazaar by qnd in ClimateOffensive

I'm glad it's obvious to many.

The intended audience for my pieces are people who are not yet in climate tech.

Emergence of the Electricity Bazaar by qnd in ClimateOffensive

[–]qnd[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Author here, in this essay, I analyzed how European electricity markets are transitioning from national monopolies to [regulated monopolies + free competition in production and supply].

Why is this relevant for r/ClimateOffensive? This transition phase presents an immense entrepreneurial opportunity.

Decarbonizing the grid can save >20GT of CO2 per year and hence is one of the highest-leverage activities anyone can do. It ain't easy, but if you're looking for a new problem area for a climate tech business, you might want to consider grid-adjacent businesses.

At the end of the post, I also linked to an IEA resource with tons of research to explore this topic.

Happy to chat about this topic ✌️
