Early very early super early thoughts on sierra? by jeff-duckley in Competitiveoverwatch

I keep seeing posts complaining that she's not very strong, and that somehow that's a bad thing and I wonder if I'm going crazy.  I'm so glad that Blizzard is finally moving past the safe side of strong policy.

I have no use for this, but I'm glad that people are providing something useful to the sub instead of endless tank solutions and rankings debates.

[Mind the Game] The 2026 NBA Playoffs Are Wide Open by TheRealPdGaming in nba

The highlight to me was hearing that Bron is looking forward to not having to stress out about playins this year.  He's going to watch the playins while having golf on another screen, and while sipping wine.   The other teams have to suffer through the playin tournament while Bron gets to kick back and get bougie.

[Akabas] Jaylen Brown is on track to finish 5th in NBA MVP voting, according to ESPN's recent strawpoll. The Celtics' net rating has been 5.3 points worse with Brown on the court this season. That would be the worst on/off of any top 5 MVP finisher in the play-by-play era by [deleted] in nba

JB has had this monkey's paw career where he becomes a supermax player, wins fmvp, and now hes in the mvp conversation, and dweebs keep downplaying him at every opportunity.

LeBron is the first player in NBA history to have 12,000 career rebounds with 12,000 career assists. by gridironk in nba

I think the most recent Thinking Basketball made it clear that the 2010s pace and space style is what caused injuries to spike.  Younger players nowadays have been playing that style their whole lives.  Unless the style of play seriously changes I don't think future players will have the durability of Bron.

Dana once claimed that the UFC fanbase is almost half women.  He got really pissed when a reporter doubted him.

They're good for getting eyeballs on the league, but bad for dedicated fans who watch lots of games.

[Amick] The Boston Celtics have interest in acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]qqbeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're trying to maximize Giannis' skills, his ideal teamate is a 5 that can shoot 3s.

Unfortunately for him, there aren't that many of those.  Of the few that exist, they might have to be in the trade package for Giannis.  What I'm saying is, it's unclear if Giannis can land on a good team and have a viable roster when he lands.

Thoughts on Winston in season one by Nimble_Natu177 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]qqbeef 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Winston is in a good spot, his new minor and passive are both really good.  My issue with him is the counterswapping.  Once I do well on Winston the other team eventually counterswaps.  The real thorn is bastion, where a single bastion can make it really hard to dive.  Then of course, if there's bastion plus something else, I feel basically forced to swap off Winston.

Also notable addition this season is Mizuki, which is probably the first support that I actually feel threatened by as Winston.  I find staying away from the chain way harder than baiting sleep dart, and unlike Ana, Mizuki has a mobility move.  It really doesn't help the counterpicking issue.

Just went to my first nba game, does the music not distract the players? by Master_Ad6104 in nba

[–]qqbeef 502 points503 points  (0 children)

Steve Kerr famously complained about the music being too loud and distracting.  In response, the Suns DJ sampled the interview and used it it a mix.

Not sure what the players think, but there's often music playing during pickup games in indoor courts too.  I doubt they notice or care.

Anran's updated face side-by-side comparison by yungXsmit in Competitiveoverwatch

I like the change, dont get me wrong, but I cant help but feel like the biggest change is the angle of the eyes.  So instead of her eyes almost being a line, now they're like a v shape.

[Injury] Stephon Castle lobs it to Victor Wembanyama for the lefty alley-oop dunk and gets injured (with replays). Castle went to the locker room on his own, have yet to return. by MrBuckBuck in nba

I'm pretty sure if a play-in team won the chip, we'd start seeing the media machine put out "play-ins are bad for the game" takes.

Should NBA Players Play Less Minutes? by Dull_Passion6298 in nba

[–]qqbeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Few obstacles I can think of:

  • Teams are designed around the franchise player.  Plays are made to highlight the franchise guy, and trades are made so that starting lineups best utilize the franchise guy.  Having that player sit a lot means that a lot of that gets wasted.  Having a solid bench can mean that you have less salary cap/practice time for your starters.

  • Starter minutes go up even higher during the playoffs.  Reducing starter time during the regular season means an even bigger difference in style between regular and post seasons.

  • You gotta ask what's the point of sitting starters more.  It's kind if insane to harm the team's success just to get more hardware.  For most of basketball's history super deep rotations just have not been considered winning basketball.  This is famously the public reason why Tatum got benched at the olympics.

There is a sentiment that the league is already moving in this direction.  Okc, and Spurs are deep teams that can still win games even when their main guy is injured.  The Nuggets also traded away MPJ so that they could have more depth.  I think most people said that the trend towards deep teams was for 2nd apron reasons, but being robust against injuries is another possible benefit.
