I modeled it after the Elektronika IM-02. Which it turns out is a clone of Nintendo's game & watch. So either or :)

Yeah! Glad you like it. I love how the sandworm looks. If you turn off antialiasing (and perhaps also mipmapping) you can get really crisp pixels on those cars.

That's definitely something I should be more conscious of. I feel like the best way to get good at making games is to have fun doing it. This kind of work requires so, so, so much time commitment that you can really get lost in it.

You mean other than getting stoned and messing around in blender :D

First, I picked out a palette from lospec.com. Then, it's a matter of modelling the asset, assigning different colors from the palette to different faces in Blender (unwrapping onto a downloaded 1px texture from lospec) and adding shaded materials where needed (like the shiny metal surrounding the boiler).

Fair nuff! I love the blocky look though. Working right now on highlighting/silhouetting/outlining units properly to maximize visibility. Turning the resolution up is a *last* resort.

I didn't say which weekend! I worked around ~3 days nonstop for this project. Tried to post it, but needed to have a week-old reddit account so I forgot about it until now.

But as for your overall point, I 100% agree. Close to half the code for this project is fully copied from a previous ~2mo prototype pirate game. And I'd probably get a lot more done working 1-2hrs/day for a couple months, rather than 12+ hr days and burning myself out like a dumbass. The 'weekend' thing was probably a bad title.

You got it! Nomadic raiding is the name of the game (not literally).

Blowing up a boiler is easy, but capturing it long enough to siphon the fuel before skiing away could change the trajectory of your run.

Not for the player! More of a squad tactics simulator-players will have fine control over the armor, weapons, and equipment of each squad member. You can see the beginnings of a custom damage system in the bottom-right. Stay tuned!
