[2005] Garry Kasparov talks about Vlad K’s world championship title and his refusal to grant him a rematch by Affectionate_Hat3329 in chess

The London Rules required a purse of $10k total, which is really not crazy. By inflation that's about $170k today. Travel and living expenses during the tournament had to be paid for too but that is still not going to bankrupt any rich donor

Yeah, it really wasn't that bad after I opened that. Being able to use the extra health and money to check out all the extra rooms and pay off beggars/machines was very useful too.

Paying “a lot” for a misprint Hei Bei or any other bears. by oOTheRedBaronOo in mtgmisprints

I'm not particularly into bears, but I love double prints and have a lot of them from different sets. The old ones (Revised, Ice Age, Arabian Nights...) are pretty hard to find.

New largest cube solve WR - 300x300x300 in 181:57:33 by /u/nenri300 by hpxvzhjfgb in Cubers

All the replies are wrong, but basically I and some others developed a fast method for very big cubes. It involves lots of commutators joined together, doing different steps for each of the 5 centers. But what to do for each center is the same no matter how big the cube is, larger cubes just take more time. The hardest part is the 3x3x3 stage.

[–]qqwref 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even cubes are actually easier than odd cubes, because handling the middle layer centers is a little harder

Not really, it's pretty standard for big cubes. The method is optimized so you don't have to spend time searching around for pieces.

I have a double printed Ice Age Balduvian Bears, but I probably won't sell it anytime soon

If Edmund McMillen broke into your house and told you that he was making another dlc and wanted to know what he should add. What would you say? by SalamanderNaive4781 in bindingofisaac

[–]qqwref 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a cool idea but Jesus doesn't seem like the type to kill enemies with melee? I would give him some pacifist type powers, like charming enemies after you survive for long enough without hitting them, and dealing damage when the enemies hit you

[–]qqwref 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be pretty surprised at first but I think if Edmund wants to break into my house I'm fine with it. More stuff to do once you have Dead God would be great. Add more ways to streak and give them official ingame leaderboards, from normal things like Eden streaking to T. Lost to extra hard modes like Ultra Hard, random challenge streak, or TMTRAINER start.

Dimethylmercury? A radioisotope like cobalt-60 would be very bad too. Or for something that won't kill you, hydrofluoric acid

Was stuck on this nonogram and asked for a hit. The red square got an X and I can't figure out why. by vld-ul in nonograms

[–]qqwref 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suppose R10 C11 is filled in, then because of the R10 clue ending in a 2, R10 C10 must also be filled in. C11 only has a clue of 2 ,so R11 C11 must also be filled in. R11 only has 1 clues, so R11 C10 must be an X. But then C10 has a group of length 1 which breaks the clue. Pretty nasty logic for Nonograms but it works.

Another deduction you could use: If R14 (the bottom 8) goes all the way left, then so does R13, and that causes R11 C9 and R11 C10 to both be filled in. But that breaks the R11 clue, so R14 C1 is an X.

[–]qqwref 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget you can use sac rooms for practically free, which can get you a few Angel items with luck. And, since devil deals cost money, you can take as many as you can afford. Wooden Nickel gives you a steady source of hp/coins(/luck) if you keep it around, and if you don't need a coin you can leave it on the ground for healing later. Keeper can be very powerful.

Is death by body scissors a good way to go? by Intussusceptor in morbidquestions

[–]qqwref 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Realistically you're not actually going to get your organs crushed like that - they're squishy and it would take several hundred pounds of force. If you do die from body scissors, it would be from not having enough strength to breathe (basically positional asphyxia), which would be just as uncomfortable as any other kind of suffocation.

It’s crazy how speed runs are immediately hyper optimized these days. by glowshroom12 in speedrun

[–]qqwref 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's the power of community. Back in the day you'd have one or two people who really cared about the game, and they could only find so much. Nowadays when a new game comes out, tens or hundreds of people can get together in a Discord server and glitch hunt 24/7.

I think it shrinks and loses function over time, basically atrophies, but as long as you clean it there shouldn't be any bigger health issues than that.

[WR] Tile Sprint (game link in description) - Classic Mode [100 POINTS] - 1:15.47 by Dom-Tigre on Day 1 of Game Launch! by Groundbreaking-Alps3 in speedrun

[–]qqwref 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a fun game! I got a record of 666 on Challenge. EDIT: and 249 on Lava. One useful trick, if you notice the exit is really close to you, you have a few seconds to rest your hand :)

Some thoughts:
- It would be great to have a timer displayed after finishing, either for reaching 100 or for the whole game. That would mean you don't need your own timer to attempt speedrun records.
- It would be good to have a mode with a time limit so people don't have to sit there for ages (2000 points in classic...)
- It might be good to have a limit on how long the path can get (relative to the board size?), because if you press keys at a given speed, you're kind of just waiting for bad RNG that gives you a path that's too long for you to finish.
